Save $1/year. register your domain up to 10 years. No guarantee that these will not go on sale in the future for a lower price :)

Good deal.

GoDaddy.com is the #1 domain registrar and is ICANN Accredited.

However I still prefer NameCheap.com

If you need affordable web hosting, here are some web host suggestions I would recommend further researching:
  • HostPC.com - best of the budget providers and they use DirectAdmin
  • e-rice.net - popular with AT/FW'ers they've been around a while
  • RippleHost.com but you should first read this
  • Telnap.com - run by our very own DeviousTrap send him a PM for a custom quote
  • 8-95.com - Run by Gary Harris of Dixiesys.com which is a very popular web host for us Hot Dealers.
  • DotSimple.com - I am currently hosting 18 AnandTecher's web sites for FREE. This web host is a real bargain. $0 setup, no committment or obligation, $5/mo via Paypal, you get a RESELLERS account (yes you can host multiple domains), 1GB disk space, 20GB per month bandwidth, and the great control panel DirectAdmin Support is a little slow but my uptime has been very good (except for a rare 2 day outage for which I received a refund).

The problem with Joker is that with the USD being worthless, you get screwed on the exchange rate.

ICANN acrcreditation is worthless too - never helped me when TotalNIC stole my domain names, they don't even look at you unless you pay them $8000 first!

Godaddy are the best by far, plus maybe easily.co.uk for UK domains.

Just made the day of a mate who is looking to build a portfolio site with his own domain.

Can you explain further how TotalNIC stole a domain from you? Does this happen often?

Those plans listed on WHT are ridiculously good. Approximately how long have you personally been making use of DotSimple, Ross?

Since April 11, 2004.

My test domain couponsearch.net is currently hosted there. I would be more than happy to let you play around with it, upload stuff, download stuff, etc. to test out the speed, features, and whatever else floats your boat :p

PM me your email address and AIM/MSN contact details.

Just open your own directi (also ICANN Accredited) account and get them for $6.99 (note you dont have to add money to the account to open it, you can just put in $6.99, you will just get an email saying your funds are low).

off topic but i got this in my email on 9/6/2004:

.INFO domain name Registrations, only USD 3.49

the small print:
1. This pricing is applicable for only the 1st year of Registration for all .INFO domain name Registrations, from 6th September, 2004 until 23:59 GMT/UTC on 31st December, 2004
2. This price would not appear while ordering your .INFO domain name. This has been hard-coded, so an Invoice of only USD 3.49 would be generated
3. This price is applicable only for new .INFO Registrations and not for Renewals or Transfers within this period
4. There is no restriction to the number of .info domain name registrations per Registrant Contact, provided the above mentioned conditions are met

It's standard procedure at TotalNIC to registrar-lock all the domains registered through them (or even just transferred to them). This means you can't transfer the domain to another registrar (e.g. Godaddy) without their permission. And guess what? They never give you their permission!

If you make a fuss (sending lots of Emails, faxing, phoning Australia!) they will terminate your account and keep the domains themselves (point the DNS to their own servers) and when it runs out, instead of it just becominig available again, they sell it on their own auction site (think it's called Domain Monkeys). Of course, even then it's still locked to them, so it's not as if you could even buy your own domain back!

There's a lot of sites with reports of this - Webhostingtalk especially were told to remove the comments about TotalNIC.

Oh and ICANN just said they could look into it with an independent ajudicator if I paid them $8000, otherwise they are powerless to help.

I think the UK firm UK2.Net used to do something similar, but it was more along the lines of "you pay us 99p for the domain, and when you want to move it, we'll come up with a figure you OWE us"!

Anyway, the moral of the story is there are some serious domain crooks, and Godaddy is one of the good guys (they didn't even charge me for failed attempts to move my domains from TotalNIC).

If you do a Google search for "godaddy.com exclusive coupon" you will find a coupon for another $1 off at godaddy.com that I was just able to use successfully.

This price has been around for a long time. I remember this price for .coms from back in March when I transferred some domains over.

Is it worth getting the privacy guard where your info is hidden when a whois is done, when you register the domain. How can you hide your private information if the site is just going to be used for personal reasons ?

dont think its worth it if the site is going to be used for personal reasons. But definitely useful if you simply got the domain for future use.

Is that a good deal?

Yes. You might be able to save a buck or two elsewhere but that is good enough that I wouldn't bother looking. If you insist on looking, I think 1and1.com is $5.99 but I find their web interface for DNS to be confusing, bloated, and a general pain in the rear.

nealr - That's a REFERRAL link which pays $12 per new sign up, you may want to edit that out.
