Columbus Day is really Bullcrap

1. Federal employees get this day off as a paid holiday.
2. No one else does.
3. It isn't a time to get together with family or to celebrate the change of seasons.

But yeah, it's basically another excuse for federal employees to...not work, and still be paid. BS.

My company had Columbus day as a holiday on Monday. As did the majority of MA folks.

EVERY working man and woman in the USA should get, at a minimum, the exact paid holidays that government workers get. If the state workers get more, the citizens of that state get those, if the feds get more, that's what they get. (at a minimum, this rant is not about trying to reduce paid holidays for those who get 47 paid holidays each year. )

I like toll roads. It taxes the people who use the resource. Of course, they should be cutting money grabs elsewhere. Property tax, and death taxes should be eliminated.

Its not like those tax paying parents never demand more holidays for their kids. There have been some pretty well publicized and a quite a few less publicized parental demands for various days off like Yom Kippur, the Lunar New Year, Eid al-Adha etc etc

I think it's under celebrated. I recently bought a flag carried by Columbus' fellow captains, just don't have a flagpole yet.
I've also thought of wearing a comb morion helmet to mark the day. Not sure how that would fly at work though.

To be fair, in Mongolia that would basically be the equivalent of "Great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather day". Family values and all that.
