I did when i was about 15 and didn't know any better...
They charged $36 to ship the 12 "free" cds, then when i ordered 5 at regular price to complete the contract, they gave me a pitiful discount on 3 of them (like a dollar off each) so they said i had to buy 3 more since the other 3 weren't bought at full price(i was never told nor did i ask for a discount on this order). i never did buy any more, and they sent those lame collection letters saying:

Mr. Schnookums,

This is a very serious matter and you signed a legal contract saying blah blah blah...

(i used my cat's name to sign up) :p

If you are under the legal age (18ish) then they cannot force you to fill this contract.

Columbia House = full of it. :D

It's like when they used to send you cd's that you never ordered and then said you would have to pay for them if you don't return it, well the sad fact is they can't force you to pay for stuff you never ordered so usually you get like 3 or 4 free cd's before they realise you didn't fall for it. :p

You never know, your cat might have someone looking after him. :D

Legal contracts do not apply to people under 18 in the States and Columbia house knows it, they just try to make you think it does. :p

I remember after they stopped sending me the free cd's (the ones I never requested) I sent them a letter asking why they stopped.. never did get a reply. :D

I used to do this all the time back when I was like 15.

Signed up with bogus names and never bought anything from them.

Fart Man is not a name, but they still sent me my CDs.

If you use the right coupon codes Columbia House isn't that bad. You can usually average $4 per CD.

I did BMG freshman year in college and didn't try to scam them. Cancelled once I fulfilled it though - which took longer than I expected because as I found out, once you get past the first couple hot CD's, the selection sucks.

I did this when I was 13 got my free cd's, then I went on vacation for 2 weeks and got like 4 cds that I didnt want. The sent it to collections but of course they cant go after a 13 year old. I am pretty sure they just write it off as a loss and move on.

I was in their DVD club, you can get great deals if you wait for the specials. I wanted some older movies they had, so I waited for the buy one get the rest half off or something, and bought em all at once. I basically got about 25 DVDs at half what I would've paid through Amazon, using my special bux cash whatever it was. Once I was done I cancelled immediately. Since then I get an email once every few months trying to get me to sign back up again.

IIRC from my college days, they do not know that the house you are sharing with 10 guys does not have an apartment 41F or a suite 1302 and that noone named Phil Mckracken lives with you...
