In a move fraught with irony on any number of fronts, the most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history is about to be replaced by one of the most clutch placement specialists in the game.

Unrestricted free agent Adam Vinatieri, who provided the winning field goals in two of the New England Patriots' three Super Bowl victories, has reached a contract agreement in principle with the Indianapolis Colts, ESPN.com has learned.

I think this is a huge mistake. Vinatieri is easily one of the best in the league and you can argue one of the best in the game, and you let him slip away. I'm sorry, there are some spots where spreading the skill/pay throughout the team doesn't work too well. This being one of them. I would pay the extra mil or two a year to keep him, so you had a reliable kicker. I don't know where I'm going with this, I'm just starting to rant. Just disappointed that we got rid of him :(
