If I was a football player I'd take the cash while it was hot. Teammates and friendship are great, but so is playing football for a living.

I can't fault a college player for wanting to leave early, but I'm glad to hear that he's not going to.

Apparently in Texas, much more than any other school, the football players are treated like absolute gods. I can understand why he wouldn't want to leave his 3 co-ed's a night orgies to get boo'd by Lions fans in Detroit in the winter.

there's a good chance that Tim Tebow of Florida is staying another year too after reading a few articles and what he said

With the Lions getting the first pick, all the QBs want to stay far away. ;)

It's gonna be interesting to see what happens...lots of rumbling on the horizon that the NFL may add a rookie salary cap (similar to the NBA) for the 2010 season. Of course, last time this happened Tommy Maddox came out way too early, got drafted by the Broncos, and took years to develop into a quality NFL starter.

QBs like Tebow, Mccoy, Bradford, Sanchez, etc are gods of their campus
They are like rock stars who can have threesomes with different girls every night
Unless their time was really due and disregarding money, who would want to be stuck in cold Detroit playing for the Lions as a third string quarterback?

there's a core of really great young receivers to work with next year, and hopefully fozzy will be ready to carry the load on the ground. couple that with a defense that is going to be more experienced, and i see no reason why texas won't be a pre-season 1 or 2.

and i know this may be hard for some of you to believe, but there are players that just..gasp...like being in college and actually want to get their degree.

Because you can have orgies with 10 girls a night at the team hotel room and get paid millions of dollars if you're in the pros.

Is he really that hot of a pro prospect? I figured he'd get a shot, but didn't think he was a "could leave for the draft early" type of QB. I don't see him having much of a pro career, much less being a lottery pick. Stranger things have happened, though.
Last I saw, he was projected at a second-round guy.

I'm glad to hear this!

I imagine he wants a National Championship win and/or a Heisman trophey.

College football is the purest form of (grown up) football. I don't think Colt, Timmy or Sanchez are hurting for cash or women so I completely get it.

Matt Leinart lost about $10 million by staying an extra year though. But from what I've read, he's still having threesomes with college girls in Arizona.

Edit: Actually, it's more like his contract was $10 million lower than it would have been had he come out the year before, plus a lost year of NFL salary, so it's actually a much higher number combined.

considering he's not a hot draft prospect, this is not the least bit surprising

college football is an inconsistent and unbalanced mess compared to the NFL

Yep, that's why they call it the No Fun League.

Don't get me wrong, i'd take the money and run. It is hard for a 20 year old kid to leave a situation where he is the closest thing to god ro go to an unfamiliar city, backup on a terrible team, play in freezing cold weather, etc. The money is great, of course, but the big man on campus college life will never come again.

I don't really blame the QB's for not leaving a year early. Let Graham Harrell get drafted by the Lions, then hope for a better team to draft them next year. :p

I'd be surprised if the Lions go for a QB with the first pick.

But, it would be funny if a record number of players stayed in school an extra year to avoid being drafted by the Lions. The ultimate humiliation.

LOL Every major college prospect has decided to stay in college another year or try their hand at some other sport for a year to escape that fate :) The Lions are horribly horribly bad, but with Calvin Johnson there, a good QB could make an impact in a couple of years.
