Colour scheme for a website

Mid-August 2003, I made this website for my mom's cattery. I know, it sucks, I wasn't all too good, then. So now, I want to do a re-design. I want to be able to maintain it better, add categories (sp?) and things like that. I want it to look better, because this one looks like all websites out there. I want something different.

I already have something in my mind, but I need a colour scheme. The cats are white-ish to gray-ish with blue eyes. I was thinking blue with a darker blue (just like we've got right now, only a tad different).

Any suggestions?

Awhile ago digg.com reported a study of what background color a large sample of people voted as most pleasing.

The finding was that most people voted for a sort of "slate" color, with these values:

red: 121
green: 110
blue: 97

The blue is too strong for a background I think. You need a lighter, more neutral color

That's #796E61.. :p
(Yeah, I can do that by heart.)

I don't think it will be appreciated by the majority of the people who'd visit a website like this. Target group is females (35+). I want something quite calm, but something that still says:"Watch it!" :p

Well, what colour would you suggest?

I suggest very soft pastel tones like a baby-store would have....it's presumptuous, but it works.

Baby blue? Okay, and what colour text would I use? And an additional colour, a harder blue?

Light yellow (slightly on the neon side, but not bright!!!) and white with some light & thin black borders is good.
