Colors look washed out

I printed out several photos on photo paper on the Epson Stylus C80 and the colors look really washed out. Is it supposed to be like that or is there something wrong? I printed out the same photos on my HP 895 on HP photo paper and the colors a lot more vivid (close to the original). And I thought the C80 is supposed to have better color output than the HP895. Someone explain this to me.
