I am stunned at the solid performance of this beast. put the 8.12 driver on, got some screen flickering issue at the beginning, resolved using Riva Tuner by manually overclocking to 780/928 bypassing CCC, now it is working admirably in 2D as well as 3D games.

I must admit that I am stunned at the raw performance of this beast if we forget about 4870x2. The one game I wanted to test out is of course Call of Duty World at War Multiplayer mode. You may not believe this, using the in-game graphics setting 4XAA and I believe it is 8XAF which is offered by the game engine. You never got anything below 30 FPS basically. To be quite fair to the card, nearly most of the time, the FPS read above 60. It doesn't take the card too much effort to cap at 91 FPS. Strangely, though it never reaches 100 FPS, maybe that is for 4870X2!

However, what is stopping the card is smokes. The framerate-per-second bleeded so badly and actually dropped below 40 still above 30 when you go through smokes. Is there a way to fix this?

And by the way, with 8XAA, 16XAF and Temporal Anti-Alisaing set from within CCC, the game's frame rates are virtually not affected. It's just the water quality is not what I expected as like in BF2 or FarCry, is that a coding issue of Call of Duty World at War? When I ran 3DMark 06, water are so realistically rendered...any clue

Anyhow, this card really shines!

COD WaW still doesn't have profile yet in current or beta drivers. Hopefully once 9.1 is released they will include profiles for COD WaW and Dead Space. Until then we just got to wait as it's coming sometime this month.

Here'e the lastest beta driver 8.561.3, it's only dated 12/17/2008 so hopefully ATi going to have more done when 9.1 is released.
http://support.ati.com/ics/sup...ledge&questionID=40671

· Call of Juarez improves up to 15% with AA enabled
· Company of Heroes improves up to 5%
· Crysis improves as much as 18%
· Crysis Warhead improves as much as 20-30%
· Need for Speed Underground improves as much as 70%-80%
· World In Conflict improve as much as 5%

I've used this driver for Crysis Warhead with AA on and it's an amazing increase in FPS.

Hey SSChevy2001, what sort of temperature you are getting when playign games, I see your card is overclocked.

The 9.1 official drivers should be out in about a week. The numbers I've seen from people who have the beta driver of it looks really really good for all games including call of duty world at war.

Have you heard anything about fixing a screen flickering issue< talking about the 9.1 release?

73c out of Crysis, it's really a crisis for my card, I don't want it to go over 70c, heard that temperature too high shortens the life time of the card!

Screen flickering could be caused by either a profile problem, or by the card switching memory clocks. I usually lock my clocks with ATi Tray Tools before I game. For profiles problems all you can do is turn off Cataylst AI.

Also using standby mode can cause texture flickering.

73c is very low temp for the VRMs, their max temp threshold is 120c.

73c is fine... These cards will keep running fine at 100c. I guess no one remembers the fan bug where the 8800GT's were stuck at 29% fan speed. THAT was bad.

Yup. My 8800 GT was hitting 90 C like there was no tomorrow. But it didn't cough or anything. The same is happening with these 4870s, but when you up the fan speed, everything is nice and cool. Cards like it hot, it's the way they live. ;)

My 4870 idles at 44 and loads about 58. VRM's are about 60 idle and about 80 load

SSChevy2001,
Is ATi Tool Tray an official tools provided by ATi? If yes and if it solves my problem I prefer not to use Riva Tuner afterall it is a third party tool.

Hey zod96, thanks for the info, your readings are pretty much the same as mine actually.

Folks,
One more thing is that this card actually does well in the Temperature department. I also ran a flight simulation known as Strike Fighter Project 1 and it only went up to something like 64.5. I mean it is pretty cool even under load compared to my previous 3850 which peaked out at 71 degree. I think the heat sink does really well.
