When I lived in Colorado, it was all 303. You only needed seven digits to call around the neighborhood, and just a 1 and the number to call from Denver to Colo Springs, for example.

But now I'm seeing that 303 and 720 co-exist in the same towns. Do you have to dial 10-digits to call ANY number now? Even if it's the same area code and right next door?

And what about the 970 area code? You have to dial a 1+ the 10 digits to call that from Denver, right?

Yup, 970 you need 10 digits to dial oustide of the Greeley area, but only seven for local. When I lived in Golden I had to use 10 digits too. I was ALL confused for a bit when I came back to AK and only needed 7 digits.

Ok. Well, I'm going to be in Boulder. Which is 303. It used to be I could dial 7-digits for Denver (also 303) but 1+10-digits for Colorado Springs (970.)

But now there's 720 in the same area as 303, so now when I dial 303 from 303, do I need to dial the 303 or just 7 digits? And if I dial 970, is it 1+10-digits or just the 10-digits?

I hope it's 10-digits for ALL number in the state, but I kind of doubt it.

Area codes are so screwed. It's like, in Florida, I don't have to dial a "1" to call 727 from 813, but I DO have to dial a 1 if I dial 772 (other side of the state.) WTF?!?!?

Ok. I read on Qwest's website where you have to dial 10 digit dialing even if the place your calling is right next door and has the same area code.

But what about the 1? If I call all of the way across the state, to another area code, do I dial a 1?

I have to ask because I'm programming about 200 speed dials into a PBX and I'm not yet IN Colorado to test the calls. I don't want to have to make 200 edits after I get there. 😀

That's probably the case. I can't confirm it though because I only have to dial 7 digits for same area code dialing.

I dont have to dial 10 digits😕 Local anyway.

And you're in Colorado? Where?

Springs

Ok. So from CO Spring to CO Springs, it's 7-digit. But what if you called Denver or Boulder. Do you dial 1-303-XXX-XXXX or just 303-XXX-XXXX?

You must dial ten digits in your dialing area, and add the 1 if it elsewhere in the state. This may vary, so it would help if you can tell us where exactly your PBX system will be originating.

The widespread popularity of cell phones nationwide will lead to more area codes overlapping, hence the situation in Denver with area codes 720 and 303.
