So why does the OP register his car every fucking year? That just sounds stupid.
because.. you have to re-register the vehicle every year?
This is the same in most states. Some states are every 2-years.
So why does the OP register his car every fucking year? That just sounds stupid.
I am confused.
you have to buy new plates every year?
nope. you have to re-register the vehicle.
why?nope. you have to re-register the vehicle.
why?
once its registered, its registered. unless you sell it or scrap it of course.
I don't re-register my car. I just renew the tags for the license plates that I already have.

You can renew your vehicle tabs and registration up to 6 months before the expiration date. Check your vehicle registration, renewal notice, or email reminder to find the exact date your tabs expire.
There is no point arguing over the terminology.
Re-registering or "getting new stickers" or whatever you want to call it is simply a yearly TAX you pay on your vehicle based on its value.
Most states use an assessment from a KBB like service.

OP, I have heard of a similar experience. A friend of mine had the cost to register his truck increase from one year to the next. The reason: gasoline prices which were close to $5 a gallon drove truck values down and when gasoline prices settled, truck values rose again. I forgot which company my state uses for car assesments but thats whagt they told him.
Waa Waa Waa
Try paying registration fees in Cali then you can come back and complain.
Wait, why? That makes no sense.
I don't re-register my car. I just renew the tags for the license plates that I already have.
I was incorrect..
Colorado Fees aren't based just on Sale Price... It's weight too.
Registration Fees
Fees are based on the empty weight and type of vehicle being registered.
Additional fees may be collected based on county of residence and license plate selected.
Specific Ownership Taxes
These taxes are based on the year of manufacture of the vehicle and the original taxable value which is determined when the vehicle is new and does not change throughout the life of the vehicle.
Ownership tax is in lieu of personal property tax. Vehicles do not need to be operated in order to be assessed this tax.
The ownership tax rate is assessed on the original taxable value and year of service
Original taxable value is 85% of manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP).
The annual specific ownership tax is based on the year of service.
Dave, do you really expect no one to call you out when you make shit up?
Dude, STFU if you don't know what you're talking about.

They gotta repair the roads somehow right? Except that they don't do it.
Hmm....I thought it was more expensive the last couple years. And they keep flip-flopping on the emissions requirement crap.
Varies by county though as well. They gotta repair the roads somehow right? Except that they don't do it.
Are you suggesting a link between vampires and democrats?Just remember that the more liberal an area becomes the more bloodsucking the government becomes to pay for all that "free shit" and the government jobs for those that would likely never be able to hold a job in the private sector.
Dude, STFU if you don't know what you're talking about.
I have $1,100 canceled check receipt for 2005 Hyundai I paid for Tag.
Taken from here:Illinois Fee to Register Car
You’ll pay a $99 car registration fee, provided you order a standard IL license plate. This fee applies to both initial vehicle registration and registration renewal.
However, fees vary if you order a specialized license plate. For example, an Eagle Scout license plate will up your annual car registration fee to $126 and a Support Youth Golf license plate will hike your cost to $139. A five-year Antique Vehicle license plate, on the other hand, will only require $30 to register.
Sales tax and/or made up story to embellish and play the one upmanship. So, I'm still mystified how you spent $1100 for vehicle registration, unless you're not telling the whole story (typical) and conveniently forgot to include the sales tax you were paying because you bought the car out of state and the DMV made you pay in-state sales tax on the vehicle......hmmmmm?
- only a sucker would pay that price.
