Colorado Sucks

So I was a huge fanboy of Colorado.

And I still am, I suppose.

But the state wants me to pay $1,400 in back taxes for a year when I wasn't even a resident. How the hell does that work?

Might be some kind of reciprical (sp?) law. Illiniois did that to me once when I was living in Iowa while in college. I made like $15,000 in Iowa while being a full time student and renting a house in Iowa, but Illinois still claimed me as their dependent. I paid into Iowa taxes, but Illinios thought I should have paid them.

Got a nastygram in the mail around the middle of June from the IRS of Illinois saying "hey sucko! pay us our money".

Meh.

Maybe it's just the Colorado Department of Revenue that sucks. I just don't see how they can expect to tax people when they weren't even a resident of the state. That would be like me moving to Florida and Florida charging me for taxes for 2001.

You must have been employed or had some type of monetary gains during your stay.

Kind of like Pro athletes when they play in different towns they owe taxes there, even if they don't live there.

See you at Vail or Breckenridge.

The Colorado Dept. of Revenue is real tough on negotiating payment of back taxes. They want the total amount in full. They are really difficult to deal with. The IRS is much more flexible in working out payment plans.

Had problems with them before?

Yeah, but you end up spending the rest of your life trying to afford a decent home. And the smog, and the liberals, and all the people.... No thanks.

Bah, I'll take sunny warm weather and liberals as opposed to backwards ass conservatives.
