Heading up there for a business trip and my gf is tagging alone. Any suggestions on what we should catch? We'll be up there for a weekend only. TIA!

Cog railway is closed for the winter ... probably open in April. The Pikes Peak highway is open year round ... but may not be open to the summit. Call ahead.

Garden of the Gods is really cool now with a little snow on it. What kind of stuff are you interested in?

Let's not forget the Air Force Academy. That is a good "tourist attraction", even if you have different feelings about the military. There are some really cool things to see on a tour of the Academy. I also second the Garden of the Gods. I would also recommend (if you have the time) a drive to Cripple Creek. Not only a cool place to visit (as an old ghost/mining town) but I understand they might have a casino here. The drive is also a heck of a treat, as long as the weather holds out.

Careful about the Academy. If the security level goes up again you won't be able to get on base. Make sure you have a backup plan.

I'd recommend taking a tour of the Olympic complex. There's a lot of great athletes and training facilities to see and the complex is only about a five minute drive from downtown.

If you like to play pool then I'd recommend going to Phantom Canyon. It's smack in the middle of downtown Springs and has some great beer.

Garden of the Gods, Cliff Dwellings, Pikes Peak are all great recommendations, too. If you feel like driving a little and aren't used to the mountains there's a wonderful drive up Highway 24 towards Woodland Park. Very beautiful.

PM me if you want more suggestions or have questions. I'll see what I can come up with.

I'm not sure how much of the academy you get onto as a tourist anymore. May be limited to the visitors center.

Yea, Cripple Creek is a very nice drive ... also Royal Gorge (highest suspension bridge in US (world?)). Denver is only about an hour or so north ... summit county (Breckenridge, etc.) is about 2.5-3 hours, and a nice drive.

If you're looking for nightlife, Tejon St. downtown is pretty much where its at. Hoober's reccomendation is good. Rum Bay can be a fun place ... good variety.

About two hours or so depending on traffic. Maybe two and a half.

If you're looking for touristy then definitely hit Old Colorado City and the Cliff Dwellings.

In Colorado? Maybe up in Denver, but I don't know of any down in Springs. You'll find that Springs is actually a pretty small city trying to come to terms with the booming economy and expansion of the late 90s. It's an interesting situation.

I can recommend some decent steak houses.

Uhm ... there's a new place that opened on Corporate Center Dr. up near the North end of town. Aussie theme IIRC ... supposed to have good seafood from what I've heard. Can't recall the name.

Caraba's is good ... one up near the Briargate mall. If you want to go really high end, take her to the Broadmoor ... expect to drop $100+ on dinner for 2

There used to be a Nichola Tesla museum, but I've heard that it closed. :( I don't know if his Wardenclyfe tower still stands there or not.

Haven't seen the new restaurant. Do you remember where it was on corporate center?

If you do want to take her to a really nice, romantic restaurant then I'd try the Craftwood Inn in Manitou Springs. It's just outside of town towards the mountains. They don't server your typical restaurant fare, but rather venison, buffalo, fish... things like that. Very, very good. It's cheaper than the Broadmoor and better, I think. The atmosphere is not as stuffy.

Near the south end ... you can see it from I25 by the N. Nevada exit IIRC. I'll ask around ... somebody here has probably been there.

If you're into coin collecting, there is the American Numismatic Museum. Cheyenne Mt. Zoo is nice. You can't get tours into Cheyenne Mt. Air Station (NORAD) anymore.

Yup ... used to. I've been in there a few time ... pretty cool, but they should just turn it into a museum now IMHO

Yeah, NORAD was great. Too bad they discontinued the program.

On the intersection of Academy and Dublin there is a resturant called Jun great sushi in my opinion.
Are you going to be in the north or south part of town? or in other words close to the Broadmoor hotel or Air force Academy?
