Hey -
I'm getting this odd color shifting on my 21" Viewsonic. It's a GS815 that I just got a month or so ago. By "color-shifting" I mean this: The whole screen will take on a bluish tint, then a greenish tint, then yellow, then some other color. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the color schemes, and it all happens very fast so it just looks like one big color shift, but it continues for a a few seconds, then stops. It happens at seemingly random times, but only after I've had my computer running for a little while. This made me think it is a heat issue. Here are the specs on my system.
Athlon T-Bird 1.1 GHz
ASUS A7V mobo
Hercules GeForce 2MX
Soundblaster Live Value
384 Megs PC133 VCRAM
3com PCI NIC
using a wireless USB Logitech keyboard/mouse
Altec Lansing 4.1 speaker system
21" Viewsonic GS815 monitor
running Win2k
Now, this color shifting occurs when I'm just in Windows, playing games, reading email/web pages, basically, all the time, but not until my computer has been on a while. As I said, my first thought was a heat or possibly a power issue, so here's what I've tried.
Put heatsinks on my geforce RAM.
Switch to BNC video cable.
Moved the monitor video cable away from power sources and cables.
Added a 500W BackUPS power backup. (Both my computer and my monitor are plugged into it. At first I though I might be drawing to much power from the UPS, so I tried plugging just my computer into it, and my monitor into the wall. That didn't help. Then I tried the reverse, and that didn't help either.)
Rounded all my cables to help cooling overall in my system.
Resinstalled VIA 4in1, Detonator3 12.41, Windows2k, SBLive drivers
The only other thing I can think that it might be is my northbridge. I'm going to put a blorb on my northbridge to see if that helps at all. Right now, my northbridge just has the green heatsink that comes with the ASUS board on it, and it gets relatively hot. Other than that, I can't think of anything, except that the monitor might be bad. Can anyone else? I really hope I don't have to send this monitor back. Thanks -
