color reproduction question

can anyone help me find some information concerning the differences between color printing technologies?......."business color" vs. "graphics color".....that sort of thing......i have a customer that is a print shop that wants to buy a new color copier and i'm having a hard time explaining why color depth is an issue and why process color is better than spot color for high end graphics and photos

a print shop wants a run of the mill color photo copier... NOT a high end professional machine?

if your for reals mention something along the lines of whatever your trying to pitch as being able to reproduce color better...? if its not cmyk its not worth it.

this isn't a run of the mill photo copier man.....i service high end graphics machines.....the machine i'm "pitching" is about a $20,000 copier with a fiery built in.....but that's beside the point....the question was concerning some hard evidence of the benefits of high end color......i have my own documentation on the facts, but the problem is, he doesn't necessarily believe them b/c they are studies that my company has put together.....basically he thinks i'm just trying to convince him to buy my machine.....i can't seem to find any information online discussing the differences between a color product that only prints in pantone color chart colors, vs. a machine that is 8 or 10 bit color depth capable......any help with that would be appreciated.......any replies that say things as vague as "if it's not cmyk it's not worth it" are a waste of time

Think logos versus printing photographs.. seriously that sums it up.

If he doesn't print complex proofs or photographic images or 3d renderings, he may not need the process color machine.

i know the differences, but the problem is explaining it to the customer.....they are very hesitant about believing me b/c they have gotten burnt by a previous salesman on this topic.......what i'm looking for is some unbiased documentation explaining the different technologies.....thnx
