My wife wants to get a color laser printer so she can print her brochures and such for her home business. So we're in the market for something that doesn't cost very much. Hopefully under $500.

OfficeDepot has an Okidata 5200N printer on sale this week for $399 (after $100 MIR).
I can also get a Xerox Phaser 6120 for about $460 or so.

I only have experience with expensive laser printer that we use at work and dont' know how the less expensive models compare.

Has anyone used either of these printers or do you have a color laser printer of a different manufacturer that you could recommend or not recommend for me?

I haven't seen any come up in the Black Friday listings yet but there's no real rush.

Thanks.

Resolution matters a lot for color lasers because they can't really mix colors like inkjets can. That's why I recommend the Konica Minolta Magicolor 2430DL Color Laser Printer. The magicolor 2450 is even better but it's outside of your price range.

Also, be ready to load it up with more ram to get the high resolutions.

KonicaMinolta MagiColor 2400W here. $299 and it's been a great printer. I really like it. Only "complaint" is that it's a real power hog. When I switch it on or wake it from sleep the lights in the room dim for a second while the drum charges.

Search in Hot Deals. I posted a deal on a Konica Minolta color laser printer a few days ago. Got it a couple of days ago -- good so far!

the Phaser isn't a laser printer actually, it's a Wax Transfer technology printer. it gives better colors and resolution than a color laser printer but is annoying because the wax can melt of etc.

i have an older phaser 860dp and it's been a great printer for me.
