Xerox Phaser looks great until you consider the toner cost. it's $250 for the printer, which is a fantastic price for a printer with that print quality.

they have an interesting strategy. i think it's like the "give away the razor, make the money on the razor blades". they get you hooked in to this killer printer and then you go to replace the toner and it's $200 x 4 = $800 !!!

so i stopped drooling over the Phaser and fondled this one today at Best Buy. the HP 1215, $199 at Best Buy, $179 at the Egg but no free shipping. smaller than the HP 2600 color laser. cartridges are $75 each, you need 4, so it's only $300 at toner replacement time.

basically i'm just looking for some nice mellow high quality printing with reasonable cost per print and no shockers when you consider total installed cost.

on the other hand, the Newegg reviews (all 2 of them) are not good.

URL for the Phaser. looks really good, huh ?

3 good reviews. FWIW. $533 for the combo deal with 4 toner cartridges, in addition to the half-filled ones that come with the machine.

does anybody have any printers they're really psyched about ? i have an HP inkjet that has led me to take the Lord's name in vein a few too many times. intermittent, have to keep re-seating the cable, chokes on the paper ... it's about 4 years old.
