Color depth with 2405

Hey all. I have noticed that my supposedly 24 bit monitor (Dell 2405FPW) looks the same whether I have my video card (eVGA 7800GTX) set to 16 bit or 32 bit color. I do not have an option to select 24 bit colot. By the same - I mean it definitely looks like 16 bit - eg, gradations of intensity of a single color are very noticeable. Has anyone else noticed this problem or have a suggestion as to what I may be doing wrong?

Are you guys telling me that none of you have any idea what I'm talking about?

It's possible 2405FPW is a 6-bit panel and actually has no dithering at all, but the chances of that are like the chances of winning the lottery. I don't know why they wouldn't look different. 32-bit is 24-bit with an alpha channel I believe.
