Colony Wars (PS1): looking for similar games

I remembered this game out of the blue recently, and how I really loved it back in the day (1997-ish). I would love to check out games that are in the same vein. That being: console-based, non-MMO space shooters (sim or arcade-y) with an emphasis on spacecraft combat.

I have a PS2, PS3, Gamecube. Any titles that you know of that might fit the bill?

I have no idea, but a suggestion, try searching for the game on Gamespot and usually on the left hand side towards the bottom they list a few games that are similar.

Starlancer would be exactly the kind of game you're looking for.

Unfortunately, AFAIK, it was only released on Dreamcast and PC. The good news is any (semi) modern PC should be able to run it maxed out with ease.

Good game too. I have it on Dreamcast, and it was a very enjoyable shooter.

Check out the Rogue Squadron game on Gamecube... It's a Star Wars game, but I really enjoyed it. Not really too open but there are a few missions that are in space vs being on a strange planet...
