I had the scope they put up my pee hole, no pain meds or nothing.

I can remember when the doctor pointed to the video monitor and then I passed out from the pain.

I've had the scope up my pee hole as well with no medication either. The pain isn't as bad as you describe. It hurts a little at first, but once they are in you hardly feel anything.

he had filled my bladder up w/ water to the point I thought I was gonna me out the camera. Not too mention my prostate was enlarged and caused me severe pain, so trust me it hurt.

I felt the same way after my cystoscopy. I thought we were going to have lift off as he was removing the scope. It also made my prostate very angry. So angry in fact that it decided to send out a platoon of razors to rape and pillage my urethra as I was taking a piss shortly after.

I had the same procedure does as well. They were checking bladder capacity.

Good luck. I hope the results are good. The day before is worse than the day of. I got a written report with pictures of my insides.

It's a necessary evil and it's a good thing you're doing it. My dad died of colon cancer that would have totally been preventable if he'd started getting colonoscopies earlier in his life and when he thought he might have been having a problem.

So it's uncomfortable - it's better than Chemo, Radiation, and well all other possible eventualities. Good for you.

And give thanx to medical advancements...if you saw the glaas fixture known as sigmoidoscope used to visual that anatomy prior to scopes...well suffice to say it wouldnt feel good at all.

Biggest reported discomfort during the much improved 'scope examination is fear of breaking wind in docs face! Seriously, it feels like you are gonna rip a huge flatulence, and most patients try to stop it...you can't.

Liquids only today, with 1 shot of Phospha-Soda, and another this morning. Blech!

Bottoms up!

I just had my first one. Nothing to it.

Removed one non malignant polyp.

Slept thru the whole procedure.

I've been scoped down the throat too. Can't remember what they call it. The prep for that is no fun either. They spray the back of your throat for what seems like forever and then have you spit it out. That's when you get the "surprise". It tastes like battery acid and your whole throat, tongue, mouth and whatever go numb.
I've had that done twice, and the only prep I had was not eating after midnight before it. I don't remember the spray, probably because I was already out by then. I know I didn't knowingly spit anything out, through I do think they told me they'd be giving me the spray, to stop the gag reflex. The procedure itself is a breeze since I never remember any of it. Only bad part is not eating before.

Just hope that they use an automated endoscope reprocessor instead of manual (i.e. human) reprocessing. Most endoscopy centers use glutaraldehyde as the high-level disnfectant---->So just pray that it was flushed well enough to remove and residual glutaraldehyde...if not you will know REALLY QUICKLY as your will get chemical burns.

There are some peracetic acid based disinfectants although they have not caught on too much in the U.S. yet. And lord help you if you have an older clinic that still uses formaldehyde.:frown:

You should really request to see the endoscope reprocessing room ahead of time. The larger clinics will have automated endoscope reprecessors (AER) but most of the smaller ones still do manual reporcessing. They ALL do manual pre-processing (cleaning) of the scopes. When in the room, if they do manual they will put the scope in a sink filled with detergent. They will brush the outside of the scope, and then use a little brush and clean the interior channels (lumens) of the scope from connection point to the distal tip (end). After this detergent wash, the sink should be drained and refilled with clean rinse water. I have seen many places NOT CHANGE the detergent or rinse water (multiple sink facilities) between scopes----YUCK.

Also during the rinse the techs are required to flush a certain amount of clean rinsate though each of the scope channels. This is normally accomplished with a syringe, which can be rather hard because of the small channel (lumen) size. Also the Pentax or Fuji scopes have internal check valves internal to the scope which makes this step even harder (unlike the Olypus scopes without these checkvalves).

Good luck to you. All I can say at this point is better you than me. 😉

Yeah, it's over. They found 1 and removed it. The prep was the worst part, and the fact that they pump air into your colon.

The Lower GI was much worse as I was wide awake for that.

I was having a Barium Enema , a while back, and when they opend the flow, I let out a yelp and cried out "it wasn't like this when the aliens did this!!" all you could hear was laughing from the booth....

BTW, they didn't do the scan, I ended up with another MRI and a partial colonectomy.

< no bag.
