I am creating a hypothetical situation in which my girlfriend gets into berkeley, but i do not. We would really like to live together, but dont know how it would work if this happened. Or vise versa..does anybody know of the closest colleges to berkeley? We both have decent grades, but I am just creating this hypothetically. Any input is appreciated, thanks!
We are planning to get an apartment, so perhaps a location between 2 colleges could work.

Stanfurd is the only university that will be of Berkeley caliber. Unless youre thinking about a cal state school.

BTW, palo alto is not even close to berkeley.

So, you're willing to attend a college just for the sake of being close to your girlfriend? You dont care what college it is, just as long as you're close to her? Hahahaha, is she willing to make the same stupid sacrifice if you decide to go to Texas for college?

Oh BTW, I hate to put this soo bluntly, but I hope it opens your eyes a bit and influences your decision. There will most likely be a break up down the road.

sorry there are none that are in liveable distances to Cal and other college.

Stanford is about 25 to 30 minutes from Cal.

CSU Hayward is about 25 minutes or so.

SFSU is about 15 to 20 minutes.

Santa Clara and SJSU are about 30 minutes.

Anyhow as others stated. You stupid if you're willing to go to some university that's not best for you just for some girl.

I'm 99% sure you'll break up.

UC Davis is a good school, (my college) and Sac State. Both withing driving distance of Berkeley. There are some schools in San Francisco too, and those are close.

I agree with what others have said. You shouldn't go to a lesser school simply because it's near your girlfriend. Apply to some good schools in the area, and if you get into a good school near her than that's a bonus.

What types of schools do you think you can get into?

UC Davis is a very good school, but some people don't like living in that area. I really liked it though.

You can drive from The Peoples Republic of Berkley to Stanford in thirty minutes? In a rocket car in the middle of the night maybe. If he has to do it at normal school hours it's more like two hours.

San Francisco State represent! USF is a private U. UCSF is a med grad school. And then you have a bunch of cal state colleges and community colleges.

WTF? 30 minutes isn't livable? what planet are you from? i commute 45 minutes one way to work and i don't consider that a long commute.

i hope everything works out for the OP, but my experience was that my gf and i didn't last a full year after starting college. we thought each was "the one," and all that great high school stuff, too. it didn't matter. it was all for the best, though.

I think there is a problem with people on this forum, they are trying to tell you what's best thing to do when you are only asking about the colleges closest to Cal.

To make my post more relevant, you can consider USF or UCSF, dunno how far SCU is but if it's within driving distance I would recommend it too.

As someone above mentioned, UCSF is purely a medical school.

ucsf is a grad school. harder to get into than getting into the undergrad program @ cal.

Worst idea ever...and you say that someone'll let you into their college, even with your decision making the way that it is?

Don't plan your future around a girl, especially at the n00b age of 17/18.
