College Students: When you buy textbooks...

Used usually. But sometimes the bookstore prices on new and used books are within $5-10 of each other. I usually buy books on amazon marketplace.

Always used, as long as I can find them. The book has the same information in it, rather its new or not, so I'd rather save money.

I'm out of college (well, not really, but I'm done with classes). However, when I was in college I bought used whenever possible. Used books (in engineering) were usually $20 or $30 cheaper than new, so it was really worth trying to get used copies when possible.

If new is within 10% - 15% the cost of used, then I'll go with new. No sense in having to read through others' highlights just to save a couple bucks.

New. I can't stand to give the bookstore $120 for a book they bought from a student for $40 just 4 months ago.

If I can find used ones at a discount store (not the university bookstore) I'll get them there first, but I almost never buy used from the bookstore.

Used. Why in the world would you pay the price for a new book? If I can read it, then it's fine. Heck, I don't really use my textbooks much anyway, most really suck.

I only buy new when the price diff between new and reasonable condition used are small or there isn't a used one available.

First, I go to BookByte.com then see if the one I'm looking for is available. If it is, their used books are 25-50% of school bookstore.

I will only buy textbooks from the bookstore when there is absolutely no other options.

I buy'em used. I also take my fiance into the bookstores with me b/c she gets a 10% discount on books for being faculty/staff. 🙂
