I just went to my bookstore's webpage and looked up all the books I need for next semester...and my wallet's cringing already :( I'm looking at (before tax) about $430 if I can get everything used, and $570 if I have to buy them all new. I'll probably have to get a little of both, so I'm figuring on right around $500. How about you?

PS: Anybody know somewhere online to find these kinds of books any cheaper? Amazon.com was actually more expensive in most cases, but only by a few bucks per book.

~$400 + tax. Too bad I got no money to pay for this, stupid UC fee hike of $1,900 yearly. I usually try to buy my books used either on amazon.com, just search the isbn number and buy it used through them, look on ebay, or half.com. If I feel really poor, I just borrow the book from the school library, 2 hours at a time.

Ouch....Guess I shouldn't be b!tching, since I go tuition free . Oh well. $500 is still $500. And it wouldn't bother me so bad if we actually USED the books. But most of my professors rarely, if ever, touch them. :|

Why not only buy the books after you've been told to use them, or borrow off someone else? :p

Nate

So don't buy them until the professor actually starts asking you use them.

Thanks for reminding me - I just emailed all my profs for this fall and asked them to send me titles/ISBN numbers. Addall, here I come! :)

I wish it worked that way. But usually the professors say on the first day that you need such-and-such a book, so you go out and buy it. Then, after a week or two of classes, you realize that you're going to use the book only once in a blue moon or so.

a rule of thumb ive learned thru my college years.

NEVER buy the book for any class unless you fail the 1st test.
Ive spent less then 300 bucks on books and Iam a senior Finance major at Cal State.
Been on the honor roll twice as well..
the name of the game is to show up to all classes and be realtivly attentive.
