it's a pain to get through the process, but it rewards you with a free (read: Legal!) copy of Server 08. This is basically just vista with a lot of the useless, fancy stuff shut off by default, so it's actually faster than vista.

Just thought this might be the crowd to jump on that. Also this was posted on Slickdeals before.

No, it *is* Vista once you get done customizing it and turning on what you need.

 
I went in. It works great. It took me 20 minutes to verify my non-listed college and get some keys. I already own the Heroes pack from the spring so it was just to test the process. Good show.
 
i just registers as well, just waiting for my email to come through, then be downloading server 2008 😀

finally gotten my cd-key for server 2008, does anyone know if these keys are vlk? oem? retail, msdn, or what? would like to download the 64bir server 2008 and install that on my server. For i can run exchange server 2007.
