College Residency question

My gf is coming back from her internship in China and wants to get a part time job while she waits to see if she is accepted into grad school. She has lived in IN for the past several years and her parents and brothers still live there. She wants to move in with me in OH however she is reluctant to do so based on the out of state tuition prices. She would not be on the rental contract or anything saying she lives here, but would be working here. Could she get away with working here and not lose her in state tuition price? She would be going to IU.

I live in Indiana...when I was going to college, this is how I understood it:

I am assuming your gf is still considered a dependent. Her parents are still living in Indiana (and paying Indiana state income taxes), so she would get in-state tuition.

If she is no longer considered a dependent, I believe you have to live in-state for a year to get the in state tuition.
