College Rejection?

How common is it to be rejected from college after you've been accepted? All of my highschool teachers are trying to get the students to keep doing well in school and keep going, so they're telling us that colleges will reject us if you don't do well. I can see this happening if you fail classes, but if you get a GPA of like 2.5 or so for the last semester of the year, will colleges reject you? I got into a top 20 university and all that they say in the acceptance letter is "We expect you to maintain the same level of performance" and I have to sent them my final transcripts. So, I have a cumulative of 3.3, and if I get 2.5 for the last semester, do you think they'll reject me?

Oh it is possible. After being accepted at Purdue, I decided to slack off the rest of my senior year. After graduation I got a letter from Purdue saying that my grades had slipped too much and that I may not be ready for college. I had to take tests and meet with advisors to prove that I was ready.

The sad thing was my grades didnt really slip that much.

A college will not reject you due to your last semester grades, since they won't even know what they are ;)

I was a senior in HS last yr and i know all about senoritis ;)

Anyways, here is the deal.
College can and will rescind their admission to their incoming freshman classes.

But basicly, ify ou make all B's your 2nd semester it would be ok, one C's might look bad, but try to avoid making any C's.

However, if you are starting to make more than one C' or are making D's or lower then you should start worrying :)

Some (if not most) schools will request your grades after graduation without you even knowing.

Wait, there's a top 20 college that accepts you with a 3.3?

Anyways, it's happened but not often. Usually if the college accepts too many people or if there are an insane number of applicants and you are borderline, you are more susceptible. It's not worth the risk for one semester of slacking. Besides, teachers know everyone has senioritis in the final year and your class load should be very manageable.

Top 20 university? If so, you better start working harder now. :D You're going to have to step it up a couple of notches in college in order to earn the grades you seem to be taking for granted in high school. Getting into a top school isn't nearly as hard as getting through it.

the UC's sent me a paper that said if I did any of the following, my acceptance would be withdrawn. Getting lower then a C in any college prep classes, droping any classes, etc.

EDIT:

I pulled my last semester of Senior year with 2 C-'s, a B-, B, A. Those C's were in AP classes so technically those were B's. :) Kinda weird, I either get a 3.0 for a C- or get rejected for college while some foo in a regular math class and get a 2.0 for a C and still breeze.

That's why you have to take the minimal amount of classes possible during the second semester of your senior year. Get all the crap out of the way in the first 3 years, then take all electives and crap classes so that you won't have to work at all

when reviewing your application, the colleges look at your senior schedule to see if you are planning to slack off in your senoir year. if your senoir schedule is filled with electives, the admission staff wont be impressed.

back to the topic, this does happen but very rare. some colleges say you have to complete the classes that is in progress with satisfactory grades. this statement is very broad, it could be barely passing the class and receiving the credit with a D or gettting at least a C or better. it all depends on each individual school. But if you are going to a top 20 school then you better earn something at least like a B- to be on the safe side.

I've heard a story about it happening, but only because of an a$$hole teacher. He wrote a letter to the school saying that the student did something. But it shouldn't be a big deal assuming you don't do aweful.

My friend was actually rejected from UCLA this year because he got one D second semester. All of his other grades for all four years were B or higher.
