college acceptances are out and i was just wondering if anyone knows a credible source that ranks colleges by different majors. my major is Envirnomental Sciences or Environmental Studies (depending on the school). it's not a major i hear about too much when it comes to ranking so i jus wanna make sure i'm making the right choice.

any and all help is appreciated

Look at geography programs. If it's a program with a good physical geography component and GIS, you may be better off.

1. Stanford University (CA)
2. University of Michigan?Ann Arbor *
3. U. of Illinois?Urbana-Champaign *

That's what US News has. It's a start at least.

the question is, where do you really want to goto school?

i'm an environmental engineer @ SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry. their engineering program is good, but the school is plagued with beauracracy issues. dunno much about the environmental sciences program though...

i want to go to UC and i got into Davis and Irvine, but not Berkeley (my goal). i'm debating over going to community college to transfer to Berkeley or if Davis or Irvine has a good Environmental Sciences department for me to go there

You think Berkeley is going to be more likely to accept you after you've gone to community college?? UCSB has a good geography program. http://www.geog.ucsb.edu/courses/undergrad.php

yes, i do. you must be unfamiliar with colleges. i'm near two VERY good community colleges, De Anza College (which is like #2 in the nation for community colleges) and Diablo Valley College. both have agreements with the UC system, including Berkeley. transfers from community college have a higher rate of acceptance than transfers from 4 year institutions because you are expected to transfer after 2 years if you attend a community college. as for UCSB, too late, i never applied there.

Brackis, you asked about the schools i've gotten into thus far. i only applied to UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles, UC Davis, and UC Irvine. of the 4, i've gotten accepted by Davis and Irvine.

I'm going to graduate from UCI this summer and I can tell you, right now is a pretty good time to jump in on their program. The Earth System Sciences department just got a brand new building built about 6 months ago. The department is part of the physical sciences department. They have a couple Nobel Prize Laureates. Their chemistry program is very renowned too. 90% of the faculty come from very prestigious schools. Information and Computer Science is getting a new building too. Their Graduate School of Management (Business school) just got a huge ass $30 million grant from Paul Merage, the inventer of the Hot Pockets. UCI is expanding pretty heavily all around.

i'm somewhat leaning towards UCD but not sure yet. many are mentioning UCSB but sadly i did not apply there.

so should i go to a 2 year so i have the option of changing majors? or possibly getting another change at getting accepted to other places?

I'm an Envi-Sci major. Went to UVA. Don't know how highly regarded the program is but it was the first in the nation.

I know Duke and Maine both have excellent grad programs, I don't know what their undergrad programs are like though.

maybe i should somehow make this clearer in my original post...although i thought it was already clear; i'm ONLY talking about going to UC Davis and UC Irvine. if you don't think it's worth me going there, advise me to go to community college or some other thing. i know UCSB and UVA are good schools but CAN NOT go; i never applied to them. sorry for any confusion
