I am sure there are many college students on this board. There is a super hot deal for college students only.

10000 United airline miles when you graduate. You must enroll for a free united airline mileageplus membership, and then join their United College Plus program. All this takes about 5 minutes filling out their online forms. And, when you graduate, you will earn a big graduation bonus - 10,000 united airline miles. links to signup pages

For 25,000 miles, you get a free roundtrip award ticket good for anywhere to anywhere within US/Canada(exclude hawaii). That ticket is worth easily $400+ on ebay. so 10,000 miles is worth at least $175.

airline miles is definitely not for the frequent fliers only. There are lots and lots of opportunities to earn bonus miles without flying. take a look here for lots of deals

I started collecting airline miles when I was 17, and have earned quite a few award ticket since then. however, I missed this 10,000 graduation bonus mile deal cause I didn't know about it until I was out of school! Don't let that happen to you.

I wonder if any of us will even remember to send in for the graduation bonus 4-5 years from now (if you're a freshman, that is).

think you could sign up now and just send in an old grad transcript
and maybe it would go past their radar?

do you have to travel a few roundtrips in order to be elgible for this? or just sign up for free and once you graduate you get the miles with no catches?

There is a slight possibility of losing your UA miles given the current situation of UAL...

swNYC,

don't worry about losing your airline miles even if UAL files bankcruptcy. other airlines have filed bankcruptcy in the past and they did not make any changes to their mileage programs, because that's where their loyal customers are. An airline files bankcruptcy doesn't mean it will stop operation, actually by do that, they get a unfair advantage over their competitions, after a few years in bankcruptcy, they can come out of it and actually become stronger than their competition.

i dont think its ever happened that people lose their miles, they just get transferred somewhere else.

That's not true. The bonus offer you are talking about is a separate offer. That offer is for 5000 bonus miles. basically, after you sign up collegeplus, if you fly 1 roundtrip on UA before 7/31/2003, you get 2500 bonus miles, 3 roundtrips, you get another 2500 bonus miles.

that offer has nothing to do with the graduation bonus offer. you don't need to fly at all to earn the 10,000 mile graduation bonus. what you need is that you show you graduated by send them a photo-copy of your diploma.

hehe, I tried that already. They sent me a letter saying I was not a collegeplus member at the time I graduated. probably a couple years ago, they would award the miles without checking if you were a collegeplus member. I read somewhere that a guy graduated in the 70's and was still award the 10k bonus miles!

but, it doesn't hurt to give it a try. maybe you will get lucky :)

Just thought I should share this with people who are not sure whether to join or not....

I graduated in May 2002, but only turned in my papers about 3 weeks ago. I was a member when I graduated. Not sure if that matters.

Congratulations on your graduation from college!

Thank you for sending us your documentation. We have credited your
account with the 10,000 bonus miles. You should be able to see this
bonus online at www.united.com.

If you are continuing with school and wish to re-enroll, please go to
www.united.com, click "Programs", then "College Plus", and register your
account as a College Plus member again.

On behalf of United Airlines, we wish you all the best in your future
endeavors.

it took me 5 minutes to make a copy of my transcript, put them in an envelope, put a stamp on it (no licking required!), and drop it off in a mail box... I wasn't expecting much, but 3 weeks later I got an email saying I now have 10,000 miles.

Pretty sweet if u ask me....

I am going to sign up too, since I am now in graduate school.

Is there any difference between CollegePlus and MileagePlus? I signed up with UAL's frequent flyer program when I was in college (don't remember the UAL program being anything college-related), and graduated a year ago.
