College options for adults

Long story short: I'm 25. Haven't been in a classroom for 6 years. Did such a horrible job, that I was placed on academic suspension (college was more fun on the weekends)

I work a decent job from 8-5p, with room for advancement (shift change isn't an option), but I want to finish my degree. I don't *think* I would do well in an all-online setting (but who knows).

Basically, my main option right now is: Finish my core classes at the local community college, and transfer them to one of the 2 local 4 year schools (one of which I attended before).

Here's the problem: One offers only 3 classes online...the other (the one I previously attended) offers NONE.

What are my other options at this point? I don't really have a desire to settle for the 2 year associates degree...I'd rather shoot for a bachelors, because to be honest with you, I feel I could do the work if given the chance. My partying days are long gone, and associate degrees aren't taken as seriously as a full bachelors degree.

Wait, exactly what are you asking here?

Any school will work just fine.

Unless you want to do one of those online universities, you will have to show up to a classroom for *most* classes.

Your idea of core classes at a Community College is a great idea, and a very cheap way to go about getting a Bachelor's Degree.

I'm almost three times your age and my partying days have never stopped. You evidently haven't learned how to moderate yourself.

As to your education, if you want to do it I don't see what the problem is. Are you asking permission from an online forum filled with pre pubescents?

Night classes at a JuCo or CC and then transfer to a 4yr.

I would advise you to drop the job once you are enrolled full time at a decent U or else your degree is gonna take 8yrs of part timing it.

My wife is going to Houston Community College until she transfers to Univ of Houston. So far all of her classes have been online (about 10). In fact, she has only had to go to a classroom once for a final, proctored exam. You don't necessarily need to live in Houston to take the online classes from there.

CPA has the right idea. Being online you can easily 'attend' any school you want that offers what you want. I'm in Arizona and will be starting a few graduate level engineering courses through Purdue's distance learning program this year. I wouldn't be able to do that if I had to go to a traditional course in a classroom. You need to make sure though that the 4 year school you want to go to will accept your transfer credits but that's about it.

you're almost 75? i highly doubt it.

You said that you don't think online classes are a good option for you, then you complained that only three classes are offered online. What are you trying to say?

The 4 year school doesn't offer the courses after 5pm, and only 3 are offered online (last resort option is taking them online).

Most universities nowadays are offering online classes that you can take. I had classmates during my Master's that were living in Pennsylvania and taking classes in New York. Just do your research.

25? Ha-ha-ha-ha! I thought you were inquiring about college for adults? Maybe for your parents? 😛

I grajewated last year from my local komunitee koledge with 3 AS degrees...I'm not far from 60.

Associates degrees are very versatile. They store them on rolls in the rest room for alternate usage.

I've seen this.

It's actually quite sad that the public colleges aren't better serving the "working adult" market...so they leave it up to the money-hungry business jackals whose sole mission is to double profits for fucking Wall Street.

Community college is serving me great right now. Should have all my premed coursework done in the next year or so. Only $500 per (4 credit) class, I've been able to take everything in the evening after work, and there are online options as well. Probably the only issue is limited space. That could probably be resolved with a little more money from the state.

I can't imagine why someone would pay 3 times as much to go to U of Phoenix or something.

Waidaminit...$500 for one four credit class? Where the fuck do you live?

In Kahleeforneeya, that 4 credit class would be about $120 plus about $30 per semester in misc. fees...plus books of course.

Check out WGU at www.wgu.edu if you're interested in a IT, Healthcare, Teaching, or Business related degree. I am almost done with my BS there. You pay ~$2800 per 6-month term, and do however many classes you can in that 6 month period. Some people have no transfer credit and finish the whole program in 2 years or less. It's taken me right at 2 years and I have slacked off a bit too much at times. If I stayed on it like I should have it would have only been a year. I have about 2-3 months left before I'm done.
