college laptop?

hi all,

my little brother needs a laptop for college, to be used for normal college stuff like writing papers and browsing the internet. it won't be used for games. i haven't really kept up with the current models, so can anyone recommend a nice, reliable laptop for around $1000?

smaller is better. there's a slight preference for pc, but mac might be ok. wireless is a must, dvd burner would be nice.

All I can say is to look at www.tigerdirect.com they have lots of stuff under 1.000.00 several under 500.00

You can get a macbook for $1100 new($1000 after $100 rebate on amazon.com) or between 850-1000 for a refurb from apple.com.
