Yup...another black on black crime here...nothing to see...move along...

Is that how you see it???

thats how i see it. i mean its not like you can't see it somewhere every single god forsaking day. not very shocking after a while, especially when you read a similar incident over a pair of Nike's in the news over 20 years ago. now its just another urban story, among many more to come. lets see what happens in the Bronx tomorrow

why does it matter whether it's black on black, or black on white?
it seems pretty obvious to me that the criminal just wanted money, no matter the race of his victim.

and Hernandez sounds like he was brown if you want to get technical.

Steven and Willmer Hernandez, 20, were at the Holland Ave. store about 11 p.m. to buy food for a planned trip to Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla. Willmer intervened when the punks demanded 50 cents from Steven.

A Bronx teen was charged Thursday with killing a college student who was trying to protect his little brother from a group of goons who were sticking him up over 50 cents.

He didn't want money, obviously, he just wanted to shoot someone.

yah but that doesn't really say anything other than what the headline says ... but NS1 cleared it up, i just skimmed over that part. was expecting to read it down in the details.

Shooter was black, other two sound latino. Just sayin'. :p

Unfortunately, I'm familiar with that area of the Bronx and this kind of petty stuff happens all the time. Hoods just hang on the corners waiting for someone to pick on; most of the time, no shootings occur. But sometimes they do, and it can literally be over 50 cents or saying excuse me, or whatever other ridiculous thing they decide to start stuff over.

It's a real shame that much of the Bronx is a dump. So many subway lines running through, direct to Midtown and Downtown, so much potential...

maybe you don't understand their sub-culture..... in their minds they are ENTITLED to it. They've been brought up since birth to think that others "owe" them and that the way to handle not getting what you want is to strike with violence.

Depending on who they pick on, they are rewarded for it consistently. Much like those who are participating in the riots. There is little risk, although i can't see the benefit/reward of that.

The biggest bullshit in NYC is these Black and Latin pieces criminals run rampant, and there is NO legal way for a person to carry a weapon on himself.

There are other races in my neighborhood, but they always seem to keep to themselves. It's always the Blacks and Hispanics.

You know what the worst feeling in the world is? Knowing that you'll die eventually at the hands of some punk kid.

Every single night when I walk my dog I leave the house knowing that I might die.

Guess you did not click on the link to the article to see a pic of the victim?

Edit: Purbeast posted pic that was in the article...

Hm? I grew up in the area, I understand those guys quite well. There are plenty of entitled kids running around in this generation, I would only say that's an American cultural thing. To that point, Hood rats don't really think their entitled to anything, at least in my experience; I'd say its more a product of boredom, the "macho" culture that predominates that kind of area, and impotent rage. That said, they're rarely any different than other thugs - if one of them and one of you, nothing will happen; if there's six of them and one of you, watch out.

But yes, as to the consistent reward, there's no doubt. That's why they just stand out by bodegas all night long. They're just waiting for someone they don't know who is dumb enough or unlucky enough to stumble past their turf.
