College Grads: How long did it take to get your job?

Going on my 5th month of looking (graduated in May, EE). And to make things even more discouraging, my career services director recently told me that it takes an average of 6 months for a graduate to find their job in a "good" economy, and 9-12 months in a "lesser" economy. So how long did it take?

i started looking in september of my last year, and got a job in may. i didn't interview heavily or send out resumes rapid fire until march i think. in sept i was going through the on campus recruitment and interviewing through that.

I should say that I technically started looking back in October or so of last year, but didn't start heavily looking until the end of March. Unfortunately, on-campus recruitment was completely non-existant this year for engineering (no clue why). Thus, the job search has pretty much been in my hands. I probably apply for 7-10 jobs each week that I feel qualified for.

I graduated in May 2002, was an idiot and didn't look around for a job at all. Career resource office? Set foot in it once, so much for that "valuable resource". *sigh*

I flew out to LA at the beginning of July with 2 suitcases, $500, no job, no connections. Met a friend online who said there was an opening in his office, he set up an interview, I was hired.

Started work July 15, 2004.

Still here, going back to school for nursing soon.

had a job before i even graduated.

was hired right before my senior year as a lab technician. within months, i become a lab analyst since i was able to work nearly 30 hours a week while still going to school. supervisor said when i graduated i would get a pay increase plus the full time position if i wanted it. then 6 months of graduation, i had the experience to get another job elsewhere

bad gpa (slightly above a 3.0), and not enough experience brought me down...

funny thing is that this unknown job agency called me (i don't know how they got my number), and wanted to interview me. i went but didn't expect anything at all...

now i got the job from them. totally unrelated to my major but it IS science... somewhat like a lab tech...

and this other job that i was looking forward to is going nowhere. funny how life works sometimes...

but it took me less than 2 months. will continue looking until i find a job that i like...

What degree do you have? From stories like yours, I have been very cautious of allowing a staffing agency place me into something; since I graduated with a 4 year degree in EE (ABET accredited, not a "technology" program either), I do not want a technician job.
