Ridiculous - YouTube video in link
When I saw this Saturday night, I was thinking this is a multiple game suspension. Possibly the entire season. This is worse than throwing a punch. This is taking a helmet and hitting someone that is unprotected with it. Didn't Miami players get multiple game suspensions doing the same in the brawl with FIU or FAU?
You suck Nutt.

Saturday night's game between Alabama and Arkansas had many of the elements that we love about college football: momentum swings, gutsy calls, last second touchdowns, cheerleaders, etc. It also had something that nobody likes to see. After getting man-handled by Alabama lineman Justin Britt on a long rushing play, Arkansas' Ernest Mitchell removed Britt's helmet and smacked him in the head with it. No, I'm not kidding.
Mitchell was ejected and because of that he was required to be suspendeded for the first half of the Kentucky game. After meeting with the SEC Commissioner, Houston Nutt decided to bench Mitchell for the entire game against Kentucky.
I agree with The Hog Blogger, that one game really is not enough for something that could have easily caused serious injury. Frankly, if an Alabama player did that, I'd want them to be dismissed from the team. That might not be realistic, but this isn't just a mistake. This isn't just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This isn't getting caught with a little dope in your car. This is a 300-pound football player swinging a blunt object at an unprotected head because he was getting beat. If you think he couldn't have (literally) killed Justin Britt in that situation, you're out of your mind.
The Hog Blogger also says, and I agree, that if Britt had been more seriously injured the punishment would be more harsh, but what does that really tell us? It tells us that Nutt doesn't really find the conduct as objectionable as maybe he should and his primary concern is how much outrage it generated.
