college folk feel at home "at home?"

are you more comfortable in your transitional home at school or at "real home?" i just moved back up after christmas break and it feels so much better to be up here (400 miles from home). im a second year, this is my second break. any of you feel the same? never thought itd get like this

LOL! its my 4th and final year of school and my mom still gets mad at me for saying that. Even though I've never really lived in their current house (they moved during my Sophomore year).
 
I definitely feel more at home in my dorm then where I grew up. I think it's because it's my choice to be here at school and I'm starting to make my own home where I want it to be, not where it's just given to me.

While I was home for Christmas, it was strange because I was somewhere in between guest and resident, although I don't even have a room there anymore. It frustrated me when I would refer to going home (as in back to my dorm) and people would say, "Oh, you mean going back to school."

when i went home for the first time during my freshman year of school--- my brother had moved me into my bedroom, so i was forced to sleep in his smaller bedroom.... Ever since then its never really been like 'home' to me. i only live there 4 months out of the year now.
 
I'm 'home' in both places. When I moved out, my room got taken over by my little sisters and so now I get the "guest bedroom" downstairs, which was originally set up for my grandmother to live there, including a kitchen and living room - now the computer cave, as we call it. So it's a little bit of college life at home.
 
I guess I am at home in both places but i still prefer being at school. If only i could get half a dozen people to transfer, i'd be set. If that ever happened, we would really rule the school. People would run in fear from our awesome nerdom.

I was so exceedingly bored when I was at home for christmas holidays.
 
living in my apartment down by the school. Can't stand home 'cause its boring as hell, not to mention all my friends are living down here too.
 
I feel more home at college. My home got pissed 4 years ago when I said "I need to go home" in reference to college. Kinda funny since my parents complain a lot when I am at home (family home).
 
It's nice going back home home, but staying too long gets boring not to mention that staying with my folks for too long drives me nuts.

same here. dorm != home. definitely not my dorm. it's fun and all but no where near what i can do at home.
 
I must say they are both different. I like them both a lot, they have their pros and cons.

Home= great food, my ORIGINAL friends who I can say anything to and do anything with, great bed and nice couches to watch cable on.

School = friends are within walking distance, more freedom and less nagging.
 
It's such a change of pace going home. I'm a Jr. now and I'm still not completely used to it. At college, I always have something to do, whether it be work or social stuff or whatever. At home, I really need to make an effort to keep myself occupied. It also doesn't help that my mom has yet to come to grips with the fact that in another year and a half, I probably won't be living there at all.
 
True, true. I don't feel at home half as much as I do at school. The first two years were rough for me at college, but now I love it here! ...And being at home only causes me to fight with my parents and realize how incredibly strict they are.

I don't know how I'm going to manage over the summer...

for my first vacation home, thanksgiving, it was horrible, but christmas break has been better. overall though, living at school is more fun.
 
I would have gone nuts at home if I didn't have the opportunity to go and see LOTR 4 times hehe,

I seem to have the opposite view of most of you. Near the end of Winter break my parents asked me when I was going "back home". I said, "probably MLK weekend because I'll have to come back here before I go to the auto show in Detroit." They said, "No, we meant are you leaving for Pitt on Sunday or on Monday.". I told them that if they ever catch me calling Pitt "home" to shoot me. I'm not living at Pitt, I'm just temporarily detained there. I get a lot of nice weekend furloughs though. Cities and I have a sort of mutual antagonism, I need more space and less diesel fumes. It's been a year and a half (slightly more) and I still much prefer being at home. Maybe it's different since I don't have any more freedom at college than I do at home, my parent's trust me enough that they don't place any restrictions on me. I feel much more hemmed in in the city because it's such a PITA to get anywhere. Traffic all the time, idiot drivers who don't follow the stop lights, almost makes me want to take the bus instead of my car, but busses are even worse. Back at home, I just get on the highway and in 15 minutes I'm anywhere I want to be.

I consider home to be where I lived before I moved here. School is a place where I live for awhile. Now I don't dislike school at all, its just not as nice as being home. Something about the rain, clouds, and cold here verse the sun, warmth, and beaches back home.
 
I feel like the black sheep now, lol. I love being at home much more. At home I get a nice big house, a very compfortable bed, privacy, decent food, privacy, oh did I mention privacy? I feel bored at school way more often then at home. I must be some kind of weirdo I guess.
 
I've been at college for 4 years now and I hate this place. Student housing is so cheap, dirty and disgusting. The common areas are filthy and you are forced into (more or less) living with other people you don't really give a flying f*ck about... "Real Home" is soooo much better. So what if parents are around, if you're like me and are bringing in the big money, they can't say anything about what I'm doing, or where I go or what I do, etc.
