College essay standard?

Is it safe to say that it's standard for college essay assigments to formatted with double space lines?

MLA or APA unless you're told otherwise. Your best bet would be to go with MLA if nothing is said, since it is a standard and you can easily take it up with the department if your professor arbitrarily decides to change his or her mind after the fact.
