College computer setting up. PLEASE HELP!

Ok guys. I did it. I finnally have all my parts and am ready to setup my computer. I WONT BE OVERCLOCKING! I just want this thing up and running without 1 problem. I hope these motherboards are ok without problems. I need it for college in Sept.22 without problems so please help to get me up and running. This will be used heavily for graphic work and gaming. Also Do i have to do anything to the mb to detect the 1.4ghz or will it be ready when i install it into the mb? I dont want to have to oc anything for the mb to recognize it. So any help in getting me up will be great or even recommend some things to me. I havent opened anything yet so.

1.4ghz athlon retail
Epox 8k7a or asus a7m266 (whatever comes 1st)(both in mail)

just make sure you set the cpu clock jumper to 133 instead of the default 100.

Check with the campus internet people and see what cards they reccomend for NIC's.(i see we missed one of those..🙂...)

We like Intel(my personal fav, low CPU use) and 3com here, but Linksys and Netgear are goodies as well if ya wanna spend a little less cash. I've got ZILCH expereance with K7 systems, so i can't say a dang thing there.. Oh and see if you can't get win2k through school for cheap, i've liked it MUCH better than windows 98se..

Yeah double check your mobo guide to see if your jumpers are correct. There have been countles posts by people keeping their fsb to 100 and not switching to 133. I laugh since they think they have a defective cpu.

the motherboard will recognize your chip once you boot it up. when you first setup the comp, just plugin the video card, ram, cpu, and heatsink. boot it up and see if everything works. if it does, plugin the harddrive and cdrom and install your OS. i prefer plugging in my other cards (sound card, nic, etc) after installing windows because i find installing the drivers are easier that way (for me at least). after all that, install the mobo drivers, then directx, video card drivers, and the drivers for the rest of your PnP cards. i might have missed some stuff, but that's basically a general guideline i use when building comps.

I did here something about these boards not recognizing the 1.4. maybe im wrong. Also how does the systemn look and do u think i will have problems if not ocing. I just have seen so much crap on amd problems that im a little worried. All i know is that i need the computer is top shape for Sept 22. Thats when College starts at Drexal and my computer media design classes start. Please continue with help

I use my college computer for surfing, watching porn, and listening to music. Oh yes, and Counterstrike; lots of it.

There will be a jumper to choose between the 100(200)FSB and the 133(266)FSB on your motherboard. If you got a 1.4GHz 266FSB CPU, make sure you set the jumper accordingly.

Also how does the systemn look and do u think i will have problems if not ocing.

The quality of a built system is only as good as the builder. You're the only one who can decide whether you're computer will be in top shape, or a POS. If you want quality no matter what, you should've gone prebuilt (Dell, IBM, etc.).
