College / Career Advice Needed...

Currently, I'm into...

Web Design (love making sites and learning new xhtml/css methods, trying to get into programming with php and javascript, etc. However, I need to get better at gfx with PS-CS2)

Networking / Hardware (took A+ class last year, passed with a B+... and now I'm taking Networking. I don't enjoy learning Networking as much as Web Design, and I have yet to touch/play with/modify a real networking and/or a real router (Cisco). I hear it is high paying, but there is a SH!TLOAD of information to learn. I could consider possibly doing Web Design as part time or hobby.

I'm not sure what I should take in college... so I'm looking for some advice. I'd like a job that's high paying (of course) but one I could enjoy. Or maybe I'll find some other thing in the next 2-10 years that I wanna get into? I'm basically interested in anything Computers, except Engineering (this includes Video Editing, Sound Editing, Graphic Design, etc).

I was wondering if some of you were at the point I am currently in, and care to give some advice. Currently a Senior in HS, and next year I'm going to a Community College for 2 years, then transferring to an undecided College for another 2 years..

Since you plan on going to a 2 year school, then transferring to a 4 year after, be careful what you choose as not every class will be transferable and you might spend time retaking classes and the like ItmPls. 🙂

You don't need a BA for most of the careers you mentioned. However a BA is still a very good idea. You could always apply to a 4 year school as a theater or arts major -- a lot of schools have good programs that by your junior or senior year have you making your own short films and stuff. Schools also have Design majors.. you learn a lot about design in general and can specialize in web sites and stuff.

If I were you, I would try to get my BA.. it will help you later in life, especially if you ever decide that computers are not for you. And some people will just generally respect you more.

You can try computer science as well.. but thats a lot of math and its not easy. Unless you are serious about programming, Design might be a better match for you/

If you want job security (let alone have an easy time finding a job when you graduate) I recommend you not pursue any of those careers.

IT audit / IT consulting

safe jobs that pay really well and still has some computer/tech stuff related to it

You would need to go to a good undergrad program with a BBA program to get a sweet job though.

Try to get an associates degree at the community college. That way, you can clear the lower division requirements at some four year colleges automatically without having to worry about transfer specifics.
