A friend wants me to build him a pc, he's not going to really game much on it. Budget is probally 300-400 and these are the parts he need:

Cpu: Amd Athlon 64 3000 $146
Motherboard: ???
Ram: Corsair 2x512 $83
Hard Drive: 80gb something $60
Case: ??? Something with a psu that's quiet and not too ugly

Everything else i got, will take suggestions on upgrading or downgrading any of the parts because money IS an issue and the closer to 300 the better but i also realize that you can't build crap systems. No overclocking on this system either.

for the motherboard, check out the ATI Xpress 200 series with the integrated X300..its directX 9 compatible too and it is not expensive

if he's not gaming i dont even see the point of getting a amd64. u could build a cheap socket A box with an nforce2 or something
