I love that I can find a used version of a textbook online for a quarter of the cost the University Bookstore sells them for. Not only that but I can sell them back to the University Bookstore for roughly the same price I bought them.

That's if I even need to buy the book. Half the time I just borrow one of my friend's.

$647.

All the books I could buy used were buy used (can't buy lab books used, or the latest edition of things.. ugh)

Yeah, freshman, the gen-ed classes require so many damn books.

Hehe yeah. I remebered that I bought an 8th edition (used) physiology book. But I soon realized that I bought an older edition (the 7th one) for just 49 cents at my university. I was amazed that the newer version had only 2-3 new pages, and the rest is the same as the old one. So I immediately returned it and got my 89 bucks back :D

Interesting.

My buddy is on a tight budget. Today he asked me for a hundred bucks.
Seems he bought the wrong books for a class and cant return them. If he doesnt get the right books soon he'll have to drop the class.

Should I loan him the money? And if so, how?
Cash, money order, personal check?

And while we're on the subject: What fvcking mafia decided colleges needed to assign ass-loads of expensive books? The thing that pisses me off is it seems most of those books dont last very long. The course only uses them for a few years and then moves on to newer and more expensive sh1t. The idea of online courses gets more appealing every year.

can't return them? I'm sure your friend could immediately post a banner of books he currently have and sell them to the students who needs 'em.

He needs the money by thurs. And we live in a small town with a small college. Everybody that needs the books has them.

And he wont be able to sell them on eBay fast enough to buy the needed books.

I waited till the 1st day of classes to see what books I actually needed (not gonna get caught buying a book that is "required" but the prof then says its optional), borrowed one from a friend after verifying it was the correct book still, verified that an edition two version older could be used for one class, and ordered my other two for like half price or less with priority shipping. Total of $70. Take that bookstore.

You can get away with that in some classes. Generally with math classes though, they change the problems around just so you're forced to buy the newest edition.

One of my friends waits until a week or two after school starts to buy books just in case a professor tells you to buy a book even though you really never use it.

books cost alot.

anyone know better place to sell your used books other than half.com?
half.com's comission and shipping reimbursement suck.
