dude... that's a pretty pathetic SAT score...

secondly, if you don't have AP classes offered, then you're definitely at an inherent disadvantage compared to many other applicants. Since the UCs weight your GPA according to their system, your weighted GPA will be alot lower than other weighted GPAs. Coupled with a weak SAT score and your out-of-state residency, I don't see how you can get into UCB or UCLA

EDIT: ROFL. Things I've noticed the past few weeks regarding acceptance into colleges. Kids unrealistically reach for the top 10% (maybe even as low as 5%) of schools then "refuse" to settle for anything else. Instead, they drop to CC. Way to go from #1 to #10! I hope you're a failure in life because you get so ambitious and so stubborn that when things don't go your way, you turn to drugs/alcohol. "I didn't land the CEO position so I'm gonna work in the mailroom earning minimum wage + cost of inflation!"

Also, I love the fact that you assume paying for college through the military is so easy. Nice one, mr. "sign up, active duty, college is paid for!" Good luck with that.

Thank you for zipping past my intentions and putting words in my mouth!

Seriously look, in my eyes money is the very last thing that I would let control (If I had control) my decision for university. As long as I am "able" to attend through means of student loans, work studies, etc. then I am more than willing to take on $100k+ of debt for a high quality education. If I am just not able to come up with the money and am not able to get loans or anything of the such, then so be it. That would be out of my control.

I will be the first person to admit, I screwed up. I should have applied to the lower ranked UCs instead of Berkeley and LA. I would have been happy with just about any one of them (they're all pretty much top-100 schools). The point now is that I am no longer presented with that opportunity anymore and so I must seek alternate means of achieving my goals, hence this post.

Oh, and one more thing, even though you hope I'm a "failure in life," I do not wish the same for you. In fact I wish quite the opposite and I hope you live a happy full life.

I realize that.

(Fair enough about UCB & UCLA, I made a mistake.)

I also want to get to California so my kids can have greater opportunities in life than I've had. I want them to be able to have the school programs that my area is lacking, as well as an instate shot at the UCs.

You can still appli late many places. I have heard of a few folks in my previous school who were banking on stanford, didn't get in and got admitted to Santa Clara in August.

you can still go to college elsewhere, get a job in CA and live your life there... I can't see why that isn't a valid option? There are plenty of schools in the sea, don't dwell on these rejections.

The acceptance to Cal is what.. 9%? I have 2 really good friends from out of state and the reason they are here is cuz of their crazy grades. Getting into Cal from out of state is pretty much as tough as in-state students getting into StanFUrd. (tougher actually).

Also about in-state schools being inferior? That's because honestly.. CA has the best state schools PERIOD. I don't think any of your state schools can ever match up to Cal or UCLA...

UVA and UMich perhaps are on par with UCLA.
What you could also do is take a year off and move to CA and do something unique like I did. I ended up getting into school that I was told I had no shot at, and even qualified for CA residence (still didn't get in because of my 3.1ish GPA uw)

Just kidding,

So far my college list looks something like this:

  1. USC: -
  2. UC Berkeley: Rejected
  3. UCLA: Rejected

In order of preference.

Has anyone here successfully appealed to any one of these schools? I feel I'm more than qualified for these institutions.

My USC decision should come in the next week.

So it's true - USC is for UCLA rejects!

On a more serious note - USC is very expensive, and scholarships are usually available only for first year.

I'd agree, why do you think I want to go there? Idaho State schools do not even rank on the charts! It's horrific.

Even UC Riverside, which most CA residents would go "yuck" at is still in the top-100.

Here are some stats for Idaho:

University of Idaho: Middle 50% for SAT: 980-1220 (/1600), 26% have over 3.75 GPA
Idaho State University: SAT: 910-1180, 21% have over a 3.75 GPA
Boise State University: SAT: 960-1140, 16% have over 3.75 GPA
Lewis-Clark State College: SAT: 860-1110, 11% have over 3.75 GPA
Albertons (private, one of the best in Idaho): SAT: 1050-1280, 51% have over 3.75 GPA
Brigham Young University-Idaho: SAT: 970-1200
Northwest Nazarene University: SAT: 910-1050, 32% have over 3.75 GPA

"settle" in-state? Most in-state universities are awesome. The best state universities just happen to be in Arizona, Washington, and California. There are good ones all over the place though.

Did you at least apply to an in-state school as a safety? If you didn't, then you might be screwed.

Look at the statistics of my state schools, even my horrific SAT score (1250/1600) is on the upper portion of it. I would prefer to go to a school where I am on the lower half.
