It's down to 10% off now. It's been up over 20% before so this is at best a so-so deal until they bump it up to 15 or 20% again.
Cartoys.com has the Escort Passport 8500 radar detector on sale.
The deal is, the price when you add it to the cart is $299, when you get to the cart page it shows you the coupon which is now 10% off AND free 2nd day air shipping.
So total shipped after coupon is $269.96.
Cartoys (Have to click through froogle to get the coupon)
They ship pretty fast too. I ordered mine a few hours ago and it's already shipped.

This detector is one of the top two made. So if you have a lead foot or are just forgetful about your speed this will come in handy.

Passport 8500 Reviews:
Radartest.com - only detector to receive 5 stars across the board.
Number one in the 2004 Motor Trend test.
One of the top 3.

you have no idea what you're talking about. you cannot compare cordless detectors with corded ones. the 8500 will detect much much further than the solo. you have to get either the V1 or the 8500, and at this price, i'd say the 8500 is the way to go. me, i'm still chugging along with my 7500. thanks anyways op.

this is the 8500, not the new pos solo. Just like finding a Ps2/GC/Xbox for 10-15% off. Finding an escort for 10-15% off is hot. The prices on these things never budge.

The Solo is simply crap, unless you're a motorcyclist.

The 8500 is a wonderful detector, on par with the Valentine One. I run them both, and often the 8500 picks up K band ~500 feet sooner.

Anyhow, GREAT deal for a GREAT detector!

I don't know why you are getting 10%. When I add it to the cart the 15% off coupon pops up. Seeing as the coupon is for anyone buying there the code is: RADAR
You put the code in when you are checking out. (Mods I think this is within the rules, if not please delete.)

Here is the text of it:

My friend has the passport and it's a very good detector. I have a V1. Once you drive with a V1 and the direction arrows, you cannot go back to a detector w/o arrows. I'd say the arrows are worth the premium over 8500.

The V1 is $150 more. I can't really justify $400 for a detector. $255 was hard enough even with the birthday money. Last time I even spent close to this was years ago for a Bel Legend.

Heh, you guys are paying just a little more $ for your radar detectors. Just yesterday someone had the Escort 8500 for $244.95 shipped on ebay. I decided to go against it since my current ooold radar detector is decent, but probably not as good. My family already owns a 8500 and a V1 already. I guess I got stuck with the older crappier one. :/
Anyways I know 2 sites that sells these radars for $249.99 shipped or $235 + $15 shipping.
Don't ask me about their reliability, but one of the stores has a more negative rating on resellerratings. I can't find the other stores on BBB or resellerratings.
Anyways my dad bought the 8500 for the $249.99 price and he says the passport 8500 wasn't as good as the valentine 1 sensitivity wise. He also said it was just a tad better than this uniden one I am using.
Most uniden radars are POS, but the one I have is pretty decent just about over 8 years old and still good. The other uniden (going to destroy or sell for lunch money) only detected cops as they went by or when they went passed.
Anyways the two sites are
http://ppraudio.com/store/agora.cgi?cart_id=8154705.16493*iA2dy2&p_id=04005&xm=on&ppinc=search2
and
http://www.sbhcorp.com/scripts/homeViewItem-28.html
Top one uses paypal and you can use credit cards through paypal (takes time to link a credit card properly to paypal).
The 2nd one you have to call in order to order it and I think they give you free shipping sometimes and sometimes not.

Ah crap. I reread the top post and saw you get a free maglight. So currently the best deal is what the orignal post said. I don't feel like deleting all of what I typed...

just to let ppl know about the 8500 vs the Valentine One, unless you don't mind false alerts, don't get the V1. Each radar has it's pros and cons and a big con of the V1 is that it's known for false alerts. Sure it detects better, but I for one don't want to be panicking for nothing.

All I'm finding is http://www.radartest.com/ atm, but there used to be a site that reviewed them all in detail, with distances under many situations. I did a lot of research on them and generally ppl perfer the escort.

The V1 does give alot of alerts because it's so sensitive. Generally I set mine to advanced logic mode so it filters out most X and K band stuff. Most cops around here use the Ka band anyway (at least in DFW). However I can attest to its badass-ness, I love this thing.

Is the solo that bad? I read somewhere that the perfomance is just a little bit off from the 8500. Well for your information, I am a motorcyclist so that is why I wanted the solo. Does anybody have a full write up and testing on the solo?

reviews

Alot of guys seem to like it here.

I don't see why the arrows are so useful, regardless which way the source is, you're going to slow down anyways. And plus with regular detectors you can tell from the change in signal strength if you're getting closer or farther away.

If my K band is going off in the city and it's pointing left and right and there are stores, then I am pretty sure the signal is from automatic doors. And so I won't slow down. Plus with V1's bogey counter, if I see the number of signals rapidly increasing I am almost positive that it is a non-police source.

Arrows also are awesome when you keep getting a few beeps, that vary in strength(probably because of terrain) you know which direction to look, I'll still slow down most of the time, but it just keeps me from looking all over the place like my friends do.
I've been in a situation where I was driving and I kept getting bleeps, I was in North Dakota and it was very flat, I kept getting small little bleeps for a few miles. I thought it was the detector error or another car setting it off, but a few miles down the road I got tagged. next week a bought a V1.

Both units are excellent. Both excel in certain tests and are a bit weaker in another vs. the competitor after a read of many reviews. You cant go wrong with either. Personally I couldnt justify the extra hit for only arrows. The 8500 is upgradable. If Im going down the highway getting hits for a few miles and its not x band, I wont be seen speeding...after all thats why I got it.

On its expert mode, you can monitor an area where there is k band from stores and see any other threats on the meter with signal strength for both at the same time. The small burb cops in my area just got laser, they are so proud of themselves and working hard to pay off their new toy and line the city coffers (and probably someones pockets as agressive as they have become around here literally 24/7) :D
