It is cold sore season. I always get a cold sore between October and December. I've tried a few different products with minimal success.

What do you use for your cold sores to KEEP THEM AWAY or atleast help the healing process?

discuss! :)

edit: yes herpes on the mouth. 90% of people have it, while a smaller percentage actually have outbreaks/shows symptoms.

Do you mean "cold sores" as in the herpes simplex virus? Or lip cracking/splitting due to dry air?

It's likely that you do but don't manifest the symptoms... something like 90% carry the virus, and while I know you're 'special' it's not in that way.

How about you clarify first? Are you talking about herpes simplex outbreaks, or dry/cracked lips due to dry weather?

There are 3 things that I use when I get a cold sore.

Viracton(teracane) its a numbing agent that works wounders.
Chapstick medicate gel
Valtrix(need a perscription from your doctor) Instead of 2 weeks of hell you should only maybe only 2-3 days. Standard RX is for 1 day(down from 3 days) This works by supression the replication of the virus instead of just making you feel better while your immune system fighting a full virus outbreak

Abreva is the only OTC thing I've tried that works. Definitely knocks a few days off, and helps the severity as well, but you have to get it as soon as you feel it. Expensive, but it works. I have some topical valtrex samples that work well also.

I think I read somewhere that more than 80% of the population has some form of herpes or another:(

Chickenpox is a form of herpes too.
Anyways, my gf has the cold sore, and I kissed her quite a bit. Still no cold sores for me :)

Abreva

If you feel one coming on, just rub that cream on it and it will never hit the surface, great stuff!!! Cost is a bit much but well worth it....

Where did you read that? Its estimated that 20-25 percent of adults carry the virus, although many do not exhibit symptoms.
