I'll watch it dude, but only for Natalie Portman!

Nicole Kidman is teh fugly.

I heard the movie was very upsetting and depressing. Just when you think it couldn't get any worst for the guy, it does.

I just saw some clips of it on the news... seemed to be a whole lot of kissing and a whole lot of not shooting and fighting.

It will take quite a bit to remove Gettysburg as my favorite Civil War movie

I agree. Gettysburg will be the movie all future Civil War movies are measured against.

Cold Mountain appeared to me to be just another dramatic love story with the civil war serving as a quaint backdrop.

Yep....imagine falling in love five minutes after you meet someone.......in love enough to make you desert the Army you're serving with just to escape back to that woman you met for five minutes in the first place. Nice basis for a movie......all about deserting the Army and your scurrying back home avoiding those that want to recapture deserters.

Did you see the movie? Doesn't sound like it. You're wrong. How in the hell is the civil war portrayed as a quaint backdrop/setting. This movie does a wonderful job of showing just how horrible it was.

And Lager, what would you do if Nicole Kidman jumped you? That's right, stfu. Fcking dipsh!t.

That is all.

Just got back from the movie with my family, and I thought it was a very good movie...it was obviously a different take on the civil war, with the absense of huge war-scenes, but it worked. The acting was really good from Jude Law, but Nicole Kidman played a pretty typical character for her...but she did it well. I think that Renee Zellweger will get a supporting actress nom, and possibly win...but she wasn't given a huge range of character to work with, so who knows. The amount of well-known actors and actresses in the movie really shocked me too! All in all, pretty good...a little slow in parts, but really not as bad as you'd expect with this type of story. Anthony Minghella did a great job with the book...and there's supposedly a 5-hour cut!! :Q 🙂

Also, did anyone notice Jack White from the White Stripes playing Georgia? Not to mention Jim from 28 Days Later was the yankee that Natalie shot.

Whoa dude, i didnt know you took your Nicole Kidman chick-flick movies so seriously. ROFL

No i didnt see the movie, thats why i said it APPEARED to be as i described it. Relax, you 'fcking dipsh!t'. Please excuse me for giving an opinion on your beloved hollywood drivel. 😀

If ROTK loses to Cold Mountain for best picture, I will officially no longer watch nor pay attention to the oscars ever again.

How does the movie compare to the book? Mainly, Inman encounters a lot of twisted characters on his journey (kind of in the vein of Faulkner, but not nearly as annoying or convoluted), such as Junior, Teague, Solomon Veasey, the goat-woman, etc. I'm wondering how far the producers went in trying to portray such characters in a manner accurate with the book and whether they toned down a lot of the violence, sexual overtones, and general absurdity that surrounded Inman's trip back home in favor of making the romantic plot prevalent. I know I'm being vague here, but it's been a year since I read it and I was just curious how things went in the movie.

Wow...just wow. Don't continue to think you know what this movie is without seeing it. A chick flick? I guess that is why you see over 20 individuals die. People being shot, trampled, tortured. Not to mention...

The movie doesn't end happily ever-after. Please refrain from making any further comments about this movie until you see it.

They didn't tone down any of the violence, at least not IMO.

The goat-woman talks about how you can survive off of goats. She pets one and holds it's head, then she slits it's throat. Awesome.

Do i need to now quote you the definition of "appeared"? Would it even help, or would you tell me to go watch the movie again?

I have only seen the TV trailers. I saw this great big explosion and thought, 'that has to the siege of Petersburg'. I looked it up on the web and shore 'nuff. By the time of the mine at Petersburg, both armies had gotten very professional at killing each other. They also had developed a distinct dislike for each other. When the mine was detonated the Union troops occupy the crater and then are promptly shot to pieces by the Confederates.
