Cold Heat Soldering Iron

Here it is @ ThinkGeek.

I saw the infomercial... but it seems like it would suck.

How does it work? I have a cordless butane soldering pencil, and I like it, but it gets a little too hot.

Opinions?

I've seen it and it's relitively cheap but I too question how well it would work . It's kinda like cold fusion sounds too good to true :beer:

What makes you so skeptical?

500ºF is kinda low, though. Don't most solders melt at ~800ºF?

Although, it doesen't say that is it's max temperature, it just says that it heats to 500ºF in 1 second. Perhaps it takes 2-3 seconds to reach ~800, but still.. the lag time would be managable.

Pretty cool, really. Well, assuming it works well.

I've been tempted to try it, but since I already have a Wahl IsoTip Quick Charge cordless soldering iron, I just can't justify it.

63/37 solder melts at about 360 degrees Fahrenheit.

I saw the commercial, it looks pretty cool if it actually works.

That just doesn't look like it would work well... Maybe if it wasn't all stylized.

Who knows, on paper it looks good.
