Cold Cathode Question

Hey, I'm considering buying a cold cathode as opposed to led fans if it is possible to turn the light off while the computer is still powered up.

The objective is to be able to turn the lights off in the case when I go to sleep.

yep. got a thermaltake one and 2 smaller ones. i think its sunbeam not to sure. but they come with a switch. crappy thing is that the switch is mounted on a pci slot. take up a whole slot just for a switch. on the smallerones i just took the switch out and mounted it in my case.

Instead of having them go to a backplane on the back, order them from Performance PCs, and ask them to remove the switch and solder it so that the light is always on. Then grab a fan controller that has the switch with 3 positions (off, 5V, 12V), like on the Zalman ZM-MFC1, and hook up the light to this. It requires a little modding (cutting two wires on the extension cable [they are a dime a dozen, as I have about 20 now; do this so that you don't have to cut into the original wiring for the light], stripping the end, and putting them in the switch connectors), but it is so worth it if you need to turn the lights on / off.
