Cold calling potential employers?

I applied for this position and I really really want to interview for it. I believe that I am a perfect match for it. It's with a govt. institution in my small town, and I really doubt that they have been flooded with applications. So I think I have atleast a good chance of getting an interview. I already obtained the phone # of the hiring manager and I wish to give him a call. I have prepared a script, just a general thing to guide the conversation and help me out. I am going to tell him a bit about myself and ask for an interview.

Do you think cold calling works? Could it have any negative consequences?

If it sounds too scripted - that would affect your chances adversely.

You should go there in person.

 

Don't use a script.
Just call them up as a normal person and ask what the status is on their hiring for positions in the company.
Remember, the people that work there, ARE PEOPLE TOO.
