Many "Energy drinks" have substantially more sugar then even a Mountain Dew which has an outrageous 47 grams per 12-oz can and nearly 80 grams in a 20-oz!

Sure, but does that automatically translate to "regular soda sales are down because people who would have bought those are buying energy drinks instead?"
That's the part I'm not going to buy into blindly.

Regular soda sales are down because:

(1) Many people are actively avoiding sugar.

(2) There are HUNDREDS more choices in the 7-11 now if thirsty then there were back in the day.

And yet, no seltzer water. They have something that looks like a bottle of seltzer water, but it's overflavored, and ZOMG SWEET!, but with a shitty synthetic sugar aftertaste. Ask me how I know... That's what happens when you don't pay close enough attention or read labels.

I guess I need to look more closely. I don't get drinks out much. I usually just drink the tap water I brought with me, but sometimes I want something with flavor, and probably bubbles, but no sugar. Seems obvious to me. Seltzer water has great sales in the grocery store. I don't understand why there aren't 10 different kinds in convenience stores.

I think most people don't care for seltzer water, which I understand, because it's fucking awful.

That depends on the seltzer water... some is pretty good.

Most however is essentially just bad club soda with a fruity/bitter after-taste. ("hard" seltzer shouldn't even exist!)

My partner likes it, so I've tried a few kinds. I'll stick with plain old water if I'm drinking water.

98% of the liquid I consume is either unsweetened green tea or tap-water.... buddy of mine always has cold Schweppes seltzer cans at his house though and I've learned to tolerate it.

The remaining 2% of my liquid-intake is beer! :)

Yeah, I'm mostly on plain old water too, everything else is espresso, alcohol, or home-made fruit smoothie with coconut milk.

Tap water here is the shits. You can smell the chlorination.
Never been a big plain water fan so I get my water from sparkling water.
Costco used to carry these for years at 9-10 a flat for 28 bottles.

Last time in Europe, years back you had a choice in restaurants. They asked still or gassy.
