Digging through some old stuff this morning. Dumped a can of coins and staretd counting. About $100 is quarter and dimes. Haven't done the nickel and pennies yet, but probably another $10 or less.

But the I remember the others stashed in a box in a drawer.

1881 Morgan Silver Dollar
1902 Morgan Silver Dollar
1921 Morgan Silver Dollar

Various websites suggest $20-25

1977 Ike Silver Dollar

Probably a buck, maybe two.

1964 Kennedy Half (2)
Could be $10 or so.

1964 Quarter
Maybe $4-5

1963D Dime
A buck, maybe two.

Indian head/Buffalo nickel, can't read the date, maybe a buck at most.

I don't have a real coin shop anywhere, just some pawn shops that buy coins, so I may not get even those amounts.

I have a whole box full of coins that I collected as a kid - my dad was into coin collecting and got me into it. Whole bunch of things like silver quarters/dimes, buffalo nickels, wheat pennies, copper pennies, some steel pennies from the 40s (not totally sure if they're legit), and lots of other stuff, but I doubt it's worth much as a whole.

They were made for a couple years during WWII so copper could go to the war effort. I have one I found in the trash. Some guy got fired I guess, and they tossed his stuff. The penny was one of the things I found.

Those aren't very encouraging numbers. Especially when you consider that coin grading is a bit subjective. Also, I have paid much attention in years, but IIRC, the rating services tend to publish the value of the higher grades that get closer and closer to "Uncirculated" or higher.

I've had some of them for 50 years. I won't be here another 50. I'm not entirely sure I'll be here another 5.

Went to one shop. They picked out four and offered me $35 for all. They upped it to $45 when I balked. I left. Went to a second place who also offered $45. I passed.

But as I left a guy in his car outside asked me what they had offered. He was inside at first but left before I did and was waiting for me. He asked to take a look at them and then handed me a $100 bill.

I said Thanks Bud, we shook hands and went out separate ways, both apparently happy.

I have to wonder if he saw something in one or more of them than the shops did.

The shop has to make a profit also, but if you're going to a pawnshop, they like more profit than average. The guy probably did a little better than buying from a shop, and you did a little better than selling to one. Nobody got an amazing deal, but everyone did ok.

That's always a possibility but from my very limited experience, they seem to low ball you. I had this one unique coin I know for certain from the completed sales on ebay was about 3/4 more than what the shops were offering. I pointed that out and he gave me some standard line about overhead, profit margins or some such.

edit: ok, obviously if there had been more than one it could be unique, so read that as very uncommon.
