Coiled LAN cable - effect on speed?

Hello community,

Today I ran 75 feet of Cat 6 Ethernet cable between my router and a device. I definitely overestimated how much cable I needed, and I have about 10-15 feet of excess cable coiled. My question is: can this have an effect on my connection speed? I'd prefer to not: shorten the cable or return it to Newegg. I'd much rather just stick with what I have, but only if there will be no detrimental effect on speed. As usual, thanks for your feedback.

No. Speed of ethernet is fixed. (Unlike DSL, wireless or ethernet-over-powerlines). The speed is determined by what type your ethernet interfaces are (10Mbps, 100Mbps or 1Gbps). The only thing the extra length could do is cause some more bit errors, which could cause a few retransmissions. But with 75 feet of Cat6 cable, you are well within specs and you should not see any excessive biterrors. You should just be fine, and get the speeds you expect.
