Hi,

I have the PSU and system in my sig. All was running great until a few days ago when I noticed a high pitch noise coming from my box. The pitch changes with mouse movements, most noticeably in games, it does happen in Windows a bit but you have to get down and listen.

I've had a google around it it seems a fairly common issue, some live with it some don't. Fixes range from changing mouse smoothing, using V sync and changing bios power saving settings.

Regardless, as I have had this PSU for less than 28 days the vendor will pick up and refund me. My question is before I arrange for it to be collected, I need to buy its replacement. Should I just get the same PSU or should I go for another brand? The main requirement is for the PSU to be quiet, especially when not under load.

I will probably be staying with http://www.ebuyer.com/ and wanting to pay around the £70-80 mark, while avoiding Corsair (Due to excessive fan noise on the TX650 V2 that I have also had)

Cheers

It's definitely from the PSU. If I put V sync on it goes away.

You think those chokes will stop the PSU whine when it's under load?

Yes, Magic Carpet I nearly got the Silent Pro before. Think I'll get the 700w version, gets some great reviews.

It's a lot worse in older games where the FPS are high, Like TF2??
Basically, yeah. Try running a benchmark like PerformanceTest v6.1 & v7. Pay attention to the 3D tests. The simpler tests give you like 2000 fps. I can definitely hear my card. This is normal.

For older games, I recommend V-Sync on.

2) That sound varies from barely audible to annoyingly loud. Depending on the card and power supply. I also bought a number of Corsair PSUs off eBuyer and got them either exchanged or returned/refunded. Just no luck.

Worst combo I had, a gigabyte card w/ Corsair VX450. That was something else. I also had an expensive Seasonic that produced worse whining than a cheaper HEC. Price is not everything.

Palit/Gainward is my fav video brand.
