I've been running Alt Times shuffled now for days and they just popped up. Is it just me or does anyone else hear a heavy Rush influence to their music??

Also, if you like them, name some others you like as well with a similar sound?

Well, they're a progressive rock band, and I think the lead guy's favorite band is pretty much Rush. So, yeah, I see what you're saying.

I'm not a terribly big fan of their sound, though. Lyrics are nonsensical and the music (sound, meter, structure) is completely overkill. What really is annoying is they will just randomly change meter in the middle of the song. Its completely unnecessary. It'll go from 3/4 to 5/4 or to 7/8 for some reason pretty much randomly. Not to mention the overkill nature of the use of

e|---------
B|---------
G|10-10---
D|12-12---
A|---------
E|---------

chords.

...yeah because all great songs are written with a continuous time signature.

Yeah, they do remind me of Rush. I just got Second Stage Turbine Blade recently because Rock Band introduced me to C&C. :)

BTW, the lyrics are meant to be a narrative related to a comic series also written by the band called "The Armory Wars".

I'll just name off some other prog bands I listen to:
Dream Theater, Between the Buried and Me (really heavy prog), Opeth (Semi-heavy), Porcupine Tree....can't really think of any others right now. Unless you like really heavy stuff I would stay away from btbam and just listen to the other 3 I listed.

I always assumed their music was way heavier and didn't have a singer that sounded like a chick.
